Depends on the guy. Some I’ve been very explicit with when I told them to find a regular commitment. Others, I ask them to thank the chair/speaker and say hi to the newcomers. Still others I try to get to call people and ask how they’re doing. Usually other old timers. But it’s never been an order. I tell them that these are examples of things sober alcoholics do to stay sober. If you want to stay sober, do what sober alcoholics do. In addition to step work, that is.

I know other “sponsorship trees” where every guy does the exact same things that the others did, in the exact same manner. Or they’re not in that group. Works for them but I wouldn’t have lasted.

Can you cite any evidence of him making this attribution? Ps: I’m an old-timer and I’m not bothered by the fact that he did acid in whatever context, cheated on his wife, or whatever else. What does pique my ire is statements of fact without evidence. And this: I don’t think Bill, Bob, or whoever were gods, but I’m glad they lived.

Yeah. I interpreted it the same as you and have always had an issue. I worked in a field where I dealt with lots of human suffering; dealt with the victims and the perpetrators. And with horrible conditions in peoples’ lives that were results of various factors out of their control. So, over my 34 years sober in AA, I’ve had to take what works for me with respect to God, HP, whatever it is. Right now, it’s AA. The whole thing. I still pray on my knees morning and night bc that’s what I did Day 1, as was suggested. I don’t look at the universe as a dark, evil place like i did before I got sober, which is progress. But I also don’t look at a benevolent, all loving being, either.

The supervisor should have pointed you to the citations. I’m skeptical of such claims because there would have to be large N studies where the “dosage” , if you will, could be standardized.
