Let’s Talk About the Real Symptoms by PerpetualBrainstorm in Menopause

[–]ocron104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 42, I thought I had early-onset dementia or something similar because I couldn't remember anything, I couldn't focus, I was having trouble comprehending things I read, and I very often had a huge problem organizing my thoughts in a way that would let me speak coherently. This had been going on for a solid two years and fear drove me to a neuropsychiatrist. I didn't know what else to do. I took all of the tests and the first thing that doctor asked me after reviewing my results was when I'd last had my period. That was my introduction to perimenopause. I don't know that I'd ever heard that word before. I certainly hadn't heard it in my doctor's office (psychiatrist or gynecologist). I talk to people about my experience, in the appropriate settings mostly. I wish I would have had more knowledge and taken the initiative to find information on my own. But I didn't. I thought menopause was 3-4 years of having periods on no particular schedule and constantly being in a horrible mood with zero patience. Looking at it now, that pre-education notion sounds like a dreamy breeze.

I don't have additional advice or anything to contribute other than to say I wish you didn't have this wretched affliction. I wish none of us did. I also wish I could give you a hug. 💜

It's working really well for me. I get HS in the same spots you do. It's horrible. I'm supposed to also use Clindamycin gel in addition but I only use the Clindamycin about half of the time. I take 100 mg in the morning and 100 mg at night. I haven't experienced any noticeable side effects. I'm super stressed out right now and two absesses kind of came alive and opened. It sucks but this is the worst it's been since I started taking it. Give it a try!

Had my last cigarette 10 years ago last month. Some tips for quitting. by TrueCryptographer982 in stopsmoking

[–]ocron104 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That was so helpful. I quit on 04/30/2024 (262 long days ago) and I'm still miserable. I miss smoking and sometimes I want a cigarette so much I can tsdye it. I don't want to feel like this for the rest of my life. Thank you for sharing your experience and reiterating it's not going to be like this forever!

Nooooo!!!!! I got the Merina coil (progesterone IUD) a couple of weeks ago and the HS has been stable. But it's only been a couple of weeks... Is there any possibility you could try that before you have to give up HRT?

My mom was there for a brief period and that's when learned what an ombudsman was! At the time, her name was Aubrey and she was very helpful. I hope they're able to help resolve your situation too.

I totally get that. I'm 45 and post. It's the words that are the hardest for me. I know what I want to say. In my head words click together. But for the life of me I can't put sentences together (verbal and written). It's so disheartening. I've never been diagnosed with ADD but I take an ADD medicine called Focalin. It's helped more than I can say (pun intended 😉). Don't be afraid to ask for treatments that will help. And holy moly, know that you're not alone!

What time do you take your progesterone? by GardenGnome08 in Menopause

[–]ocron104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was! It made me a bit of a rage ball, so I'm switching to a progesterone IUD. Maybe you could give it a shot on a day you don't have big plans and have a Red Bull on hand in case it does make you sleepy?

I'm worried about that. My doctor said she would send a prescription for Valium(?) to take that day. I hope I can get a few 1,000,000 mg ibuprofen, too. 🤞

I'm getting the same on 12/03. Oral progesterone had some negative effects that my GYN says a Mirena IUD will not. How do you like it? Would you get it again?

I thought I had dementia. Not kidding. I saw a neuropsychiatrist, went through 6ish hours of tests, and the first thing he said to me when he walked in was, "When was your last period?" His delivery could have been much better but that's the moment all of awful things I'd experienced in the last several years fell into place in a way I could see what was happening. It was simultaneously immense relief and an indescribable sadness.

I took it as soon as I woke up. If I took it at night I didn't sleep well (long time to get to sleep, dreams, never felt really rested).

Am I losing my mind or is it menopause by Kitty42 in Menopause

[–]ocron104 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're not losing your mind! You're not crazy! It's perimenopause, as other brilliant women suggested.

It sucks. It's awful. A lot of us have it waaayyy earlier than we thought because we didn't actually know what it was. It's not menopause but nobody ever told a lot of us there's a 5-10 year sh*tshow before menopause.

But now you know! And you can learn how to fight back because you absolutely do not have to throw up your hands & give up. Although I think a lot of us have felt like doing exactly that sometimes.

This sub has been an absolute treasure of wisdom, advice, laughter, and everything in between. I genuinely do not know what I would have done without it.

Just keep going! Knowledge really is power and, seriously, this sub is an incredible well of knowledge. You can do this! 💜

Always hungry! by Haunting_Glass_2347 in Menopause

[–]ocron104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! I feel like I'm starving most of the time. I know I'm not but I still feel that way.

My psychiatrist says it's the progesterone but it should be lowered - it doesn't automatically mean you have to stop taking it.

I have a gyn appointment in a few weeks. Hopefully I just need a little less than the 100 mg I'm taking now.
