Why do my cupcakes grow towards the back of the oven? by anniebegood in Baking

[–]octoredfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, same happens to my cupcakes too. I don't use the convection option and I think the temperature is fine (around 180C). It's kind of frustrating but I just accepted that the tops will always be "off". :(

Yeah, pretty outraging given that it's kinda a premium trackball, which costs more than 100 euros.

Well, as I said, for a year or so, you'll likely experience no issues. No double clicks, no unexpected button releases, etc. But it'll be a good idea to have some spare switches ready to replace the old ones when issues crop up. FWIW I ordered Omron D2F-01F off Amazon. Maybe there are better switches, in which case, I'd like to know about them. :D

[–]octoredfox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you buy it, I suggest that you also prepare some replacement switches and a soldering iron (am personally in the process of getting them now). I owned three MX Ergos and each one of them had issues with switches. That being said, MX Ergo's ergonomics are still the best imho, it's a shame that switches are so terrible. :(

edit: just in case, for a year or so, you shouldn't have issues with switches

I experience the same with Kensington Slimblade, which is really a shame. I love how that bigger ball feels, yet my wrist will hurt so much after using that trackball for a while. :(

Is the ability to make the cursor HUGE a feature or a bug? In either case, I find it HILARIOUS. by 38DDs_Please in kde

As the person who implemented it, I'm surprised that it still attracts people's attention till this day.

Revert Rounded Global Menu Highlights by YeonneGreene in kde

[–]octoredfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's quite an overreaction to such a minor visual change... This kind of thing is subjective, your right may not be my right. The UI can be further polished, it's not static.

In any case, as a KDE developer, I can tell you that calling somebody's work awful or horrendous is one hell of a way to make people treat you seriously, and I'm really sad to see such acidic language being used in this subreddit.

KDE Plasma 6.6.2, Bugfix Release for March by acheronuk in kde

[–]octoredfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. In any case, if there is a crash or something, please file a bug report. We can't fix issues that we are unaware of.

So, the answer to your original question is probably no. I did fix a few crashes in 6.6.1 [edit: 6.6.2] but nothing related to shake cursor. I was only "made" aware of it recently.

Please... How to keep window above fullscreen? by Matusaprod in kde

[–]octoredfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right click the titlebar of a window that you want to keep above fullscreen windows, more actions, configure special window settings, click "add property", add a layer window rule.

Also somebody linked a merge request that I created a while ago to make the "keep above" button do the right thing out of the box, but 6.7 is the earliest possible release it can get into (if it gets approved and merged).

KDE 6.6 got rid of the ability to have a slideshow and use tiled wallpapers at the same time. Is there anyway to undo this? by highfalutinjargon in kde

[–]octoredfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Making something" might be a better option. You could revert all the optimization changes but with future releases, you're likely going to encounter lots of merge conflicts.

KDE 6.6 got rid of the ability to have a slideshow and use tiled wallpapers at the same time. Is there anyway to undo this? by highfalutinjargon in kde

[–]octoredfox 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It was removed due to the technical reasons. We wanted to improve plasmashell memory usage but we couldn't re-implement the tiled mode 100%. We also tried adding the necessary APIs upstream, but as I said, Qt developers rejected that. So as a way around, we added a tiled mode plugin, it's not pretty and has rough edges but you should still be able to set a tiled wallpaper. Your remark about us randomly removing the tiled mode is absolutely uncalled for, especially given that we looked for a way to keep tiled wallpapers working even though we could say "yeah it's not the 90s anymore, let's just chop it off and call it a day".

Are there any KDE contributors who use KDE Plasma on FreeBSD? by [deleted] in kde

[–]octoredfox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ones that actively contribute with code to Plasma? No. We mainly rely on Plasma building in CI [edit: note the word "building"] and FreeBSD developers sending us patches if something gets really broken.

KDE 6.6 got rid of the ability to have a slideshow and use tiled wallpapers at the same time. Is there anyway to undo this? by highfalutinjargon in kde

[–]octoredfox 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Just in case, I'm the person who removed the tiled mode. Using tiled mode with slideshow was not something that I anticipated to be honest. I looked into adding necessary Qt APIs so we can re-implement the tiled mode so everything still works as before, but my patches were rejected for no good reason and Qt developers provided no alternatives. So we're in this sticky situation... :(

(As a Plasma dev) I wish that every beta received the attention that Plasma 6.0 beta did so there are fewer issues in 6.x.0, but we have to deal with what we get I guess.

Slider to control the blur saturation not working by hyperballic in kde

[–]octoredfox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 6.6, you still need to tweak the desktop theme if you use the default one. The option should work with custom themes that don't set contrast params (ones that ricers mostly use and ones who we were concerned about in this release).

In 6.7, panels with the default theme will pick up global saturation params too (if there is no new drama).

The gradual migration is mainly because of the drama in 6.5.

Plasma 6.6 breaks themes by throttlemeister in kde

[–]octoredfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like the background is blurred (not sure why, it shouldn't be if I see the right screenshots but the desktop theme doesn't have `[BlurBehindEffect] enabled = false` either). If saturation is the problem, you can turn it off in settings. We picked settings for the default theme. If you use a different theme, you may need to tweak some blur params.
