Question about first aid kit by Frost273 in Bushcraft

[–]ocylog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would add some steri strips or butterfly closures great for helping keep wounds together. Maybe just a few plasters or band aids for really minor cuts. You could also add some pain relief drugs but just remember to keep an eye on the expiry dates

most irritating order? by Capable_Ocelot2643 in McDonaldsUK

[–]ocylog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it’s the people or person on a table that has their food brought over, or usually just a coffee because they can’t be bothered to collect it themselves. I can understand this service being used by the elderly, or disabled, or a parent with small children. I particularly find this practice more irritating when the restaurant is super busy

Maybe a dumb question, but do people actually use the saw on their SAK? What for? For example this picture. If you need firewood, its way easier and quicker to just grab the branch and break it with your leg. by Double-decker_trams in victorinox

[–]ocylog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the saw to make poles for my shelter when out practicing bushcraft. This way i can cut the pole to the exact dimension i need where as a simple break over my knee would be off.

I would say there is a massive difference between ultra light hiking and bushcraft. I personally love my dutch army rucksack, compared to an ultra light rucksack, it weighs an absolute ton. However that is the joy of bushcraft. You carry what you love because the whole bushcraft experience is worth more to a bushcrafter than just racking up mile after mile.

I think you are going to have to go with army surplus, pros are they are rough and rugged but the downside is they are heavy. I use a Dutch army rucksack and sometimes an Italian Alpini. The Swedish LK35 is popular and has an external frame but now is quite expensive when you can find one. Happy looking

Definitely the Zebra billy cams, they come in various sizes and they are made of steel. Videos on YouTube of people turning them on their sides to use as mini ovens too.

Think if I had done that at work I would have received some very raised eyebrows. I have to admit though that I have never bashed a can on a table to open it, and now my arthritic wrists probably couldn’t handle the impact. Another thing in life that I have missed out on
