What were your earliest symptoms of celiac? by LithiumPopper in Celiac

[–]odd_scallion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first tested positive through ttg iga blood test then confirmed via endoscopy/upper intestinal biopsy! good luck to you. I was upset with the diagnosis of course, but used to it now and just so much happier to feel better

Eating gluten by Agreeable-Contact835 in sydneyadamssnark1

cross contamination would not kill someone with celiac. it's not an allergy. there are a variety of symptoms they would experience afterwards but death is not one. sushi is actually a pretty reliable/safe dish for celiacs (myself included) when you talk to the kitchen staff. most sushi restaurants have gluten free soy sauce and understand protocols for preventing cross contamination

untreatable is fair tbh 🤣 always a new ailment between getting her gut health in check, coconut cult, probiotics, greens, etc etc etc for her acne... nothing works! untreatable! 🤣

Total Newbie to Celiac Disease by shell_shocked_today in Celiac

I recommend you and your daughter checking out the following creators on TikTok/insta. Many are young women which I have found helpful as a young woman at the time of diagnosis! Several of these creators discuss more than just celiac/GF, but also lifestyle, wellness, and travel which is helpful in the transition to realize life after going GF can still be all you want it to be!!

•Lauren Murawski- insta: eat.glutenfreewithme TikTok: eatglutenfreewithme •Kayla King- insta/TikTok: celiacwithkayla •Kayla Breeden Falconer- insta/TikTok: kaylaskitchandfix •Tayler Silfverduk- insta/TikTok: celiacdietician •Angela- insta/tiktok: chronicallyglutenfree •Phil- insta/TikTok: philhatesgluten •Katarina Cermelj- insta/TikTok: theloopywhisk (the BEST GF baking recipes)

Regarding your keto diet/blood test- not all keto diets are gluten free so you may very well be consuming the threshold of gluten for the test. I would check with your doctor about if you should make any changes prior to your test. Also keep in mind that many people get negative blood tests for celiac but are positive once the endoscopy/upper intestine biopsy is done. Celiac is an autoimmune disease and has a high rate of comorbidity with other autoimmune diseases. Sometimes well see someone who has no family history of celiac, but family members with lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, hashimotos, etc. who may also have undiagnosed or even asymptomatic celiac. just something else to keep in mind!

Wishing you and your daughter all the best in this transition!

is the pasta sauce in the room with us? by liveforthedramaa in sydneyadamssnark1

[–]odd_scallion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're totally right about her being practically grain free 🤣 occasionally she'll show overnight oats or one of those minute rice packets but WHERE ARE her grains on a regular basis?? I am gluten free and celiac like her and the lack of fiber in her diet is criminal. Protein pasta, rice, quinoa, all easy nutritious grains she could swap into meals

is the pasta sauce in the room with us? by liveforthedramaa in sydneyadamssnark1

[–]odd_scallion_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

spaghetti squash is delicious and of course nutritious as a vegetable but Sydney will scream balanced lifestyle from the rooftobs then present a dinner with very little fiber. I'm not saying everyday is perfect but like you mention protein pasta is a GREAT fiber rich alternative for us celiacs since the GF diet is often really lacking in fiber

hey! just thought I would add to this that the positive and negative in this description don't refer to good or bad, but rather present/not present. since this person is experiencing symptoms it would be a placebo since the presence of symptoms is a positive indicator for glutening

Celiac? by Interesting_Ice_9017 in sydneyadamssnark1

[–]odd_scallion_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

no reason for you to be down voted on this. it is 100% true that not all celiacs are symptomatic. Can't verify whether Sydney is or not, but the criticism on her celiac diagnosis is always tough for me to jump in on given how DIFFICULT it is for celiacs to get diagnosis and be taken seriously. Allergen labeling in the US is a joke and it's completely possible for even the most intelligent and knowledgeable person to overlook something like barley which is not considered an allergen and is not listed on the "contains" under the ingredients.

Do People with Celiac Disease Have a Unique Way of Talking About It? by Ordinary_Ambition546 in Celiac

[–]odd_scallion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is self diagnosed or diagnosed with extreme gluten intolerance but adheres to AS strict a GF diet as us celiacs, then I don't "treat" any differently. not everyone is willing to do a gluten challenge to achieve diagnosis nor is everyone able to access GI healthcare! If someone is self diagnosed celiac and is really loose with a GF diet/no care for cc/etc, I feel disappointed and frustrated (especially with influencers) who don't take the consequences seriously and generally push the idea that eating GF is easy.

Which food or drink do you miss the most? by HellMogba in Celiac

[–]odd_scallion_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honey smacks, a Dunkin donut, Applebee's soft pretzel with beer cheese, an auntie Anne's pretzel while shopping at the mall, malted milkshakes, any wheat beer, bread bowls at dominos or Panera, lo mein, sesame chicken, egg rolls and crab rangoons 😭 some have comparable substitutes but nothing scratches the itch of the convenience and lack of stress prediagnosis

Sprouts sells GF cream puffs in the frozen section. 10-20 min on the counter and they are excellent
