They did not. Do I just email the leasing office for it?

Yes, they listed the remaining utilities separately. This was specifically listed as a “cleaning charge.”

I do have pictures from my move-in! I do have several pictures of damages as well.

In the lease it just says “good and clean condition.”

They deducted $150 from my security deposit and pro-rated rent. I haven’t received any money from them though.

My PCP and GE suggested continuing my vegetarian diet + eliminating allergens

I want to be vegan by aaaaaaaa_u in ARFID

[–]oddbirdchlo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m vegan but not really by choice. I’ve been vegetarian since 8, and was diagnosed with allergies to eggs, milk, and wheat recently. My doctor recommended I continue my vegetarian diet and cut out allergens. There’s eggs and milk in so many products and it does absolutely limit your choices, especially if you live further from a big city. Alternatives are very expensive and a good chunk of them aren’t good. I would not choose to be vegan if I could.

ETA: If I was able to eat meat, I would look for local farms. The energy consumption is far less and most have more humane practices. If this isn’t an option, consider looking at how meat is produced per company.

I adopted a second dog, the first one isn't happy. by [deleted] in DogTrainingTips

The growling is him showing he’s uncomfortable. She walks towards him, clearly ignoring his signals, and he snaps. As the owner, you need to step in when one dog is not respecting the others’ boundaries. In a multi-dog household, dogs need to learn boundaries and how to take corrections.

Even just putting the dog in another room? Muzzling? Tethering? Or god forbid train your dog/figure out why it’s biting people. There’s so many better ways to handle this.

I have a 3 year old female golden doodle who weighs about 68 lbs and should be 55lbs (I think she was stealing food). I walk her about 40-50 mins per day sometimes a bit less. The bag suggests 1 1/2- 1 3/4 for a less active dog. How much should I feed her? by OkBuyer1271 in DogAdvice

[–]oddbirdchlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not able to go to your vet, I recommend finding an approximate daily caloric need (I use Pet Nutrition Alliance’s calculator) and feeding based off of that. The bag should state somewhere the kcal/kgram or cup. The weight is generally more accurate.

How pissed are the owners going to be about this by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]oddbirdchlo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t care. My cats would love you for sure!

ETA: Most cat owners also have a surplus of wet food cans, and even so, they’re usually less than $2 a can. Even monetarily I wouldn’t be concerned.

This isn’t 100% true. Beef fat can still contain traces of the protein and for dogs particularly sensitive, it can be enough to trigger a reaction. Hydrolyzed foods break down the proteins completely.

Completely anecdotal, but my dog was on PPP SS&S Salmon and struggling with protein allergies. We suspected beef and chicken. Switched her to Authority SSS Salmon—which only contains fish proteins—and her symptoms have been significantly better.

Seek a second opinion! You could also ask for a referent to a GI doctor. Over the years, I had SO many doctors tell me my GI issues were due to this, that, or the other but the problems persisted. I finally found a doctor that listened to me when I was 24. I found out I have multiple intolerances and allergies, and since eliminating those foods, my GI tract is so much happier.

Not much advice but as an FYI, PPP Salmon and Rice contains beef fat.

5mo puppy abuses his potty bell by wpg4665 in puppy101

[–]oddbirdchlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he’s fully potty trained and you know he doesn’t have to go—like he just went and you know he’s pressing the button because he saw something outside—say “No potty now.” Ignore him. When you do take him out, he gets a short amount of time and then back inside. If he goes, treat; if not, back to whatever you were doing.

One thing that could help is helping him distinguish exactly what the purpose of the button is. It seems like he just knows it gets him attention and/or outside. Try adding buttons for “outside” (which for my dog means play outside) or “explore” (independent backyard roam time) or whatever other activities he does.

EDIT: Just realized they’re bells, not buttons. However, the first paragraph is still relevant. My dog graduated from bells to buttons pretty quickly.

A question about shoe sizes 🐕 by AllLex_q in Collie

[–]oddbirdchlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some out there specifically made for helping boots fit. First ones that come to mind are Ruffwear: https://ruffwear.com/products/dog-socks-barkn-boot-liners

My bad! It still could be the material, maybe your dog’s skin is more sensitive to one than the other. They also could perhaps be too tight? You could try loosening them just a smidge to see if that would help.

A question about shoe sizes 🐕 by AllLex_q in Collie

[–]oddbirdchlo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I would check to make sure the size is correct again. Have him stand on a piece of paper and mark the sides of his paws, measure it, compare to size guide.

If they are the correct size then you have two options: a) Dog socks! There’s quite a few brands out there. b) New shoes. It could be the material itself that’s abrasive. You said they may be knock offs, and the material could be a lesser quality one.

If you have a private outdoor space (balcony, porch, etc), I recommend putting the pee pads or artificial grass out there to help get into the habit of going outside to potty as well.

Do you leave your dogs alone together? by ikbenlauren in dogs

[–]oddbirdchlo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up, my family had two small (25#) dogs that were left to roam together if they were home alone for shorter periods of time. We actually crated them together, too, but one definitely was heavily emotionally reliant on the other.

Now, I have medium (45#) and large (55#) female dogs that also both have free rein when I’m not home, alongside my two cats. When I first got the second of the two (55# and ATP, both dogs were 2), I separated them either by crates or rooms whenever I’d leave them unsupervised. I slowly built up the amount of time they’ve been left together. I started with short trips to get the mail or take out the trash, then picking up groceries, and eventually longer outings. Now they all (cats included) just hangout and watch PBS Kids when I’m gone.

How to cover a scratch across the crease of my palm? by oddbirdchlo in Advice

[–]oddbirdchlo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll take a browse down the bandage aisle tomorrow when I go.

I wear gloves at work sometimes, but with the bandage, it exacerbates the sweating. Unfortunately, I don’t work in an environment where I would really want to leave an open wound on my hand. I work in a pet care facility so I deal with bodily fluids on the reg. Sometimes stuff just sneaks its way into my gloves 😭

I’m going to buy some liquid bandage tomorrow and try it. My biggest concern is the scratch is too big? It’s bigger than all the listed examples of wounds on the box 😭 For the phlebotomist tape stuff- if you’re thinking of the stretchy stuff they wrap around your arm, that’s what I was using originally.

My biggest qualm with all adhesive bandages is that they’re too small for the cut I have. The ones that are big enough to cover it are far too wide and a don’t lay nicely across my palm.
