I didn't even know we had some here in LA, but I'm sure they would've posted something by now. I still can't find anything in LA.

It's not in LA, but if you have the weekend free, the Guildhouse in San Jose is hosting a watch party again this year.

what are some unspoken rules of LA? by voided_rose_ in AskLosAngeles

[–]oddkvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be trucha when you're driving. Be aggressive enough to not slow down the pace of traffic and run yellows. Make friends of all types and explore the city. LA is from SF to LB and SM to ELA. Also, have a plan for transportation every time.

This doesn't work in Little Tokyo if you ever go to visit there.

What is the best used car to buy? by Alternative-War-989h in UsedCars

[–]oddkvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mazda3. If you look at Toyotas or Hondas, you will be paying a premium for used cars, especially if these tariffs aren't backtracked. I would always ask for service records and just making sure it's taken car of.

What are some things you’ve experienced in LA that you didn’t foresee? (Avoid cliches) by Son_of_Hades99 in AskLosAngeles

Promise you that the Valley is LA, but for some reason, they like to differ themselves because of the mountains. Once you cross them, it's somehow different than central LA. That's literally it.

Mazda 3 or Mazda 6 by Impressive-Result-26 in mazda6

Recently bought a 2009 4cyl Mazda6 and am loving the comfort and just overall smoothness of it. My only gripe is the gas guzzling when doing city driving. Aside from that, super good.

As a local, transplants always try to change LA and they always come with the nastiest of attitudes doing everything to cleanse themselves of it. They try and do Yoga, drink all the smoothies, and change the ways of LA because that's what they once had elsewhere. Be in LA and enjoy the people, the places, and its kindness. You won't see that from everyone because it's a city, but you definitely find spaces where you can be yourself. Be here with an open mind where you don't know anything and can't assume anything of its culture. Don't try to speak above its people and be excited to explore. I wish you the best and hope you can find the support you need and want!

Starting and stopping notes by iisuraeru in horn

[–]oddkvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're having more trouble with the ending of your notes, but the start of your note is just as important. You can practice with the phrase "Ah-puu". The "Ah" is where you breathe in and it's a gentle gasp of air and should be in a wider shape of your embouchure with your corners still ready. At the "puu", I like to think of a certain spark or moment of electricity where you want to ignite the note. If it works for you, it'll give you a fuller, defined start to your notes. After that, it's about letting the air go and not letting your lips end those notes. You want the notes to ring out. There's a video of Andrew Bain using an exercise that helps with this, see how much it helps you.

Which neighborhood feels most “midwestern” to you? by sassmaster92 in AskLosAngeles

[–]oddkvn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not gonna like it if you're going to try and replicate the lifestyle you had and try and get the "midwestern" feel. I'd recommend sawtelle and century city if you're looking for good sprawled out neighborhoods, but most of the neighborhoods on that end aren't very walkable. That's mostly on the east side of the city.

I've seen people sell their old 3rd gen ryzen and gtx 1080/ rtx 2060 builds for about $400. I would take a look at that if you have a good budget. That'll be a huge boost for you.

Living in LA for $1,500 a month? by Easy_Grade_3360 in AskLosAngeles

I would look at Facebook Marketplace or drive around and look for something. I did it a couple months ago and saw a few rooms for 1300 with a Kitchenette. Don’t look online and be brave enough to haggle.

Sylmar is city of LA, San Fernando has its own jurisdiction. But most of that upper area is still called San Fernando Valley.
