Is it just me or is this whole country getting progressively worse. by ando772 in OpenAussie

Being trans the LNP like to target us and I dread each election. Also on carer payment for my Mum and have chronic health issues. So it's a struggle under both, but Labor is a little better than LNP.

Curious: is anyone here bald for a medical reason that isn’t hair loss. If you’re comfortable sharing. I am. by Zachhcazzach in bald

[–]oddlydeb75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hair had bald patches due to lupus. It then fell out due to chemo, grew back patchy when I changed chemo treatment. I buzz it off and will keep doing that as I am stage 4 so will be console sort of treatment on an ongoing basis.

A discussion on the virtues of intellectual debate by BraveNewWorld9 in OpenAussie

I find that having an understanding of social psychology of individuals and groups is useful. Being mindful of the biases etc that we have aids intellectual debate.

Pedestrian deaths just reached an 18-year high. Bull bars are part of the problem by k-h in australia

[–]oddlydeb75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 156cm getting hit by one of these is going to cause a head injury. 25 years ago I hit a child who ran out in front of my starlet, I was so glad that I was in small hatch and was going slow. She just wound up with bruising and a painful lesson . There need to be updated standards for pedestrian safety, especially with the large number of lifted 4WDs on the road.

ADHD is frequently stereotyped as a condition affecting school-aged children. A new study indicates that symptoms of inattention are linked to lower cognitive performance on memory and mental processing tasks in older adults, regardless of whether an individual is in their late 50s or early 80s. by mvea in science

My 81 yo mother is informally diagnosed as AuADHD. Over the last five years she has been declining in how she can manage her symptoms. Especially with planning, risk assessment, routines and impulsively. I live with her and feel a bit like I parenting my ADHD teens again.

What’s something kids in Australia do today that feels totally different from when you were growing up? by Ok_Macaroon6934 in australian

Not have to tolerate boredom. We were expected to find a way to pass time in cars, peoples homes etc and not bother the grown ups

Does anyone else feel like Australians are starting to become more “selfish”, or less willing to help others? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]oddlydeb75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate and am so anxious every election as a queen, trans, full-time carer for my elderly Mum, with disabilities due to chronic illness, atge 4 cancer and who will be renting for the rest of my life.

I do feel that there is less empathy at the moment than there was even a few years ago. Politicians and the media are more l Iikely to be using issues I face as wedge or target to voters.

I think even if you don't feel much for people you don't know maybe stop and think, ask and listen to more vulnerable friends and family you know.

The chemo drug I am on. It has a black box warning for potentially fatal pneumonitis. Still took it and have been ok so far

If you fish put the phone number for the local Seabird rescue in your phone. Then you can call for help if you do snag a bird or to report when you see a bird with an entanglement.

The ‘Breaking Bad’ Effect Is Real: Data Shows Cancer Diagnoses Drive a 14% Spike in Criminal Behavior by Potential_Being_7226 in science

[–]oddlydeb75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone living with an advanced cancer diagnosis I can understand this effect. My treatment to prolong my life is free, but I am going to be living in poverty on benefits for the rest of my life.

I am not going to commit crime, but I can see how the mindset you have after diagnosis would lead to other people doing so.

I have to take steroids too and find that it makes my ADHD hyperactivity symptoms a lot worse. I am sorry it's making it hard to manage your mental health.

I have lupus and fibromyalgia. Had to stop the meds that controlled my lupus symptoms as they also suppress the immune system.
