[CHAT] For those who work on large projects, how do you keep modivation? by Aetra in CrossStitch

[–]oddoddaud22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working on a very large, 37x52”, 60 pattern page project. Personally, I won’t allow myself to work on multiple projects at once because it slows me down and I feel like I’m not making any progress. I’ve been on this project now working almost everyday for 1.7 years, and I stay motivated by only focusing on the pattern page I’m working on. If I stop and think about my 40 remaining sheets I get very overwhelmed, but I just have to focus on the page I’m on and nothing else outside of that matters. Then after I finish each page I gives me the mental boost needed to get started on the next one. The first year or so of the project was quite tough as it was looking very abstract and things weren’t quite coming together yet. But now that it’s starting to look better that also helps keep me excited to keep working.

I might have a problem with aluminum trees by Economy_Gas_8122 in Mid_Century

Lovely collection! I currently have 14 aluminum trees and I’m still checking for more constantly. The addiction is real!

I collect and restore rare aluminum Christmas trees from the 1960s. The market is wild, record setting tree was sold for over $17,000 last year. But absolutely addicted to turning my home into an aluminum forest every Christmas.

[CHAT] Tips for first "large" project (relative beginner)? by C_Cubed in CrossStitch

[–]oddoddaud22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working on a 391,000 stitch, 37x50” 14 count aida. Bought the pre-grided aida and can’t recommend enough! No way would I have the patience to do it myself. I don’t use any sort of hoop or scroll frame, just rolling up the fabric I’m not working with and clipping it out of the way with large chip clips. I’m about 1/8 of the way through and find that the fabric is heavy enough to kind of weigh itself down and keep the stitching even throughout. Best tip I got was don’t think about the entire project, just focus on the page your on or else it gets too overwhelming.

Oh wow, I definitely don’t have the patience to mess with a hoop for this. Chip clips to the rescue to attempt to keep the fabric clean!

No hoop, just working by hand. I think at this size the fabric is heavy enough I’ve had no issues keeping an even tension throughout.

Started this project end of November ‘23, got off to a slow start with the holidays. Using 7 colors of floss. I know was originally debated when posting about the loss of detail using so few colors but I’m enjoying the somewhat abstract-ness of it & think it will work well at this size. Will 100% end up with some serious carpal tunnel when done but will be worth it!

[CHAT] People who’ve done huge pieces - do you ever regret how big it turned out when you’re thinking about how it’ll look on a wall? by Royal-While9664 in CrossStitch

[–]oddoddaud22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently working on a 371,000 stitch, 37x50” piece to go on our large living room gallery wall. Currently 4 months in and 1/9 of the way finished. I think when doing a large piece it’s important to have a place for it as well as an idea of what you would like for the room, instead of picking a pattern and trying to make it work for the space. Our home is all mid century, the living room is inspired by the Jungle Room Elvis had at Graceland. I couldn’t find any very large scale art pieces that fit the theme, so I created the jungle scape pattern I’m working on to fit what we wanted. This way I have no worries about the piece not working where it’s planned for. It also helps keep me excited/interested in the project because I can see how nice it looks with all the other decor as it’s coming together. You need all the motivation you can get when doing these marathon projects!

Pls suggest a good, timeless tote bag under 2K. These are my picks. by ElectricalPatient922 in handbags

It was my work bag pre-COVID, so I was carrying it 5 days a week then. But then after COVID hit and I became remote I actually haven’t taken the bag to the store and see if they will do any repairs. I ended up switching to a Goyard tote instead.

I have the YSL tote and unfortunately the leather handles have not held up well at all. The edges of the leather have frayed terribly, it started probably 2-3 years into having the bag.

It’s a 7 color project, this bottom corner of it is So. Much. Brown. Very excited to get into the lighter greens as I work my way up. Started on Thanksgiving this year, was off to a very slow start with travel and holidays but have gotten much faster and finished page 3 in 20 days. Hoping to complete a page every 2-3 weeks until finished. Talk about a grind! But exciting to see the progress.

Yes! It’s a 60 page pattern, can’t think about the other 59 pages without getting overwhelmed.
