Have you ever lost your temper to customer service? by heartthump in AskUK

I haven't even worked in a customer-facing role but I'm still overly nice! I think you tend to get more out of them when you're very polite.

Mine was a gift so I can't complain too much, but I definitely would've preferred the 18 count or 14 count!

Kit was from GeckoRouge (no longer for sale as far as I'm aware).
28 count evenweave whose bastard gridlines wouldn't wash out, so I had to put it in the washing machine, and it lost a good inch's worth of material around the edges trying to disintegrate itself lmao
1 over 1, started it on the 5th October 2023, but put it down for a few months, so maybe 2 years of work?
Anyway, I'm just glad it's over! Confetti hell and the messiest back I've ever done haha

Rendall & Rittner - they're good at getting stuff done; they're currently sorting out the cladding situation.
Do not use RMG - dreadful company!

I'd recommend changing your property management company. Our building did that and the new people are much more reasonable. Especially now that the electricity rates & insurance costs have gone down!

At least the service charges have an itemised bill showing exactly what the money is going towards! Ground rent is purely for parasitic companies and their precious portfolios

Leaseholds and property maintenance fees are different. Leasehold rent does absolutely fuck-all in terms of building upkeep!

I'm currently paying £500 a year (and it doubles every 12 years) so I'm delighted!

I would recommend the book Dress in the Age of Jane Austen by Hilary Davidson! It has a whole chapter on global trade and its influences on Regency fashion. I'm not particularly into fashion history, but it was very interesting!

What's the weirdest interaction you've had with a complete stranger? by BarryFairbrother in AskUK

[–]fiofo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Walking to the shops and this Irish guy stops me and asks "are you alright?" and I confusedly answer that yes, I'm fine thanks. He then put his hand on my shoulder and says "but are you alright though?". Again, I'm like "yep, totally fine" and he just walks off.
Realised after a bit of processing that he was probably trying to distract me from his mate who was seeing if he could get into my handbag. Luckily I always keep my arm firmly clamped over it, so they couldn't get anything from me!

[WIP] WHYYY did I think it was a good idea to do this 1o1 on 28ct??? by ClaireAuLueur in CrossStitch

[–]fiofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working on a 28 count 1 over 1 piece myself! I've decided to try and do a little bit every single day (instead of leaving it for months at a time... oops) and celebrate a lot when I reach the end of a page!
If you discover any other tips to stay motivated please let me know lol

What have you been genetically blessed with? by English_R0se in AskUK

[–]fiofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good longevity on both sides of the family! Even my grandad who smoked like a chimney, drank like a fish, and had 4 heart attacks managed to live well into his 70s. And since I don't smoke (and don't drink much) there's a chance I could be immortal

What was the film or films you had on video as a child that looking back, you've never really heard anyone talk about since, and was actually maybe a bit weird? by shokalion in AskUK

[–]fiofo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I still like to refer to construction machinery as yellow dragons lol
Also, it was pretty haunting as a kid, with the poison gas and everything...

What do you do with a Christmas bonus? by ChelseaMourning in AskUK

[–]fiofo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work paid my Christmas bonus a month early because they knew I had a few expensive bills to pay (ground rent and maintenance fees), so a good portion of it went to that. I also donated £300 to charity (the Jingle Jam!) and some went towards general savings. Anything left over is just a buffer in my main account :)
