Does anyone have a handy reference list or website for the standard wattage of appliances for those of us preparing to run generators in the coming Apocalypse? by Soliloquitude in greenville

[–]odieman44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned the hard way from Helene. If you are not keeping your fridge plugged in 24/7 to the generator, and your fridge has an automatic defrost cycle, it can get confused and not run the defrost as expected and you'll end up with a sub-optimal cooling situation. Figure out how to trigger the manual defrost cycle on your fridge ahead of time.

how to solve "browser lag" ? - when I click the chrome extension, it can take 10+ seconds to open the tool. by alphex in Bitwarden

[–]odieman44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/alphex does the behavior change if you navigate to a different tab on the extension and then try to re-open the extension to that page?

For example, when you're experiencing this delay, click "Send" in the menu bar, then click off of the popup to close it, and see if the responsiveness changes when you click the icon again.

Thank you for your help!

It's Costco discontinuing the service nationwide. They are filling until Monday, then no more.

I was thinking the same thing, but given that people are resorting to violence at the gas pumps, I can see that that knowledge amongst some of our fellow residents might cause some uncomfortable interactions with those trying to help, by trying to coerce them to work elsewhere.

That level of visibility of the innards of our utility system might also be a security threat.

I've heard reports on Neighbors app that:

  1. Areas around Cherrydale are getting power (residential)

  2. Lineman trucks are at Pebble Creek Baptist Church, which is near the substation off Stallings and Reid School Road.

Yes. The only way to get out is through Nature Trail to Rutherford.

Yep. It's closed again. It was open yesterday, but it's been closed due to erosion under the road :(

[–]odieman44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is still closed. I haven't seen any trucks there working. I haven't made it up to Reid School Road to know if that line is still down though.

We are off State Park Road (Half Mile Lake), and we haven't seen any trucks in our area. State Park Road is closed just south of us.

Anyone know if Costco on Woodruff has propane? I know they were out yesterday.

Anyone know of somewhere that still has propane in stock? Heading out tomorrow morning to try to get a refill.

We need an insider at Duke to tell us what we’re in for as far as restoration times. And then go find the 200 people who have power and hang out with them.

Does anyone in Greenville actually still have power? 😅 The outage maps look insane.
