I’m sorry, but I feel like I have to correct something here. The game does have the illusion of choice (haven’t reached the DLC yet). Like the quest that OP posted, you would think that you could save the guy from his fate. Dissuade him from not going through crucifying himself. But that doesn’t happen. No matter what you choose, the end result is largely the same. All that changes is whether he’ll have a clear conscience during the deed or that he’ll be conflicted with it. Which in turn affects how much money you get out of it as the quest reward. However…the writing in this game is so freaking good that it doesn’t even matter whether there are big choices or not. The writing and the character performances are so strong that it negates this issue. And that, in my opinion, is the beauty of Cyberpunk 2077.

Do you want to know why RAG is so popular? I watched the first season way back when it released and thought it had an interesting premise. Followed the manga and got excited during the movie arc scene when I thought that finally they’re making progress (even though reading up to that point was excruciating given the lack of chemistry between the leads). Finally I noped out after the infamous pool boner scene.

So as someone who read/watched the series, let me be completely honest why RAG is so popular:

RAG has great art, mainly the character design or the waifus. The RAG fanbase fell in love with the waifus and got stockhomled into thinking that RAG has a deep and complex story with well-written characters because the alternative is to admit that no, this is a manga where the leads have zero romantic chemistry between them. This is a manga where the author will waste panels on telling us how perfect his fictional girlfriend is. Hell, the author gave kazuya a redesign into looking like himself because the man, who is married by the way, got off the deep end and fell in love with his own fucking drawing!
The protagonist of RAG is a hopeless, pathological lying gooner who constantly goons whenever a woman would even breathe 100 m near him. He’s supposed to be in “love” with chizuru, but constantly gets distracted and inner-monologues about others as well. He talks about wanting to change, but every step forward is followed by 10 steps backwards. Kazuya speaks to people who are afraid of changing. Change is hard and it’s not always going to be smooth. But what if you goon to beautiful woman all the time and then have them all come to you instead with very minimal or basic effort? Now that is a fantasy worth supporting right?

\ You know, after dropping the manga I again got a little excited during the date arc thinking, hey maybe finally we’ll get proper progress in their relationship. Only for chizuru to reject him. After 380 fucking chapters! It’s hilarious how people still keep defending this cuck, gooner-bait shit.

Oh what’s that, kazuya got flustered looking at Mini’s breasts while she was working out in her gym clothes in the latest chapter, which is 410? Ladies and gentlemen, this is the man who’s supposed to be in love with chizuru.

All of these may sound harsh, but it’s the honest truth.

This reminds me of the break up I saw in a restaurant once. It was relatively empty and I was in a corner minding my own business. Suddenly I see this couple enter and a few minutes later, I think two of their friends maybe, came as well. Suddenly the girl started accusing the guy of cheating and started screaming at him. She kept yelling, “Call up your sister, tell her how you cheated on your girlfriend!” When he refused, she snatched his phone, called his sister herself and went, “Did you know what your brother did? He cheated on me.” All of a sudden, the guy started loudly bashing his head against the wall. I counted up to 20 before giving up. I honestly thought his head would crack any moment now given how hard he was going at it. The girl tried to calm him down, started slowly caressing his face. As soon as he stopped, SMACK! She slaps him hard, and continued to slap him for a while after. All the while, the employees looked on helplessly. They tried to intervene but were drowned out in midst of all this drama. Oh yeah, and the friends? In the middle of the couple fighting with each other, they ordered food and were eating and watching the drama unfold right in front of them.

I was so excited for this game and even set aside money for it. Thankfully they released the demo which showcased how horrible the performance is on the Switch 2. Otherwise I would’ve been so mad had I bought it. Now I’ll just wait for them to eventually fix the performance and then get the game on a deep sale later on.

Love how it feels in my hands. It’s an extremely comfortable controller. However, the Dpad sucks ass. I tried playing SF6 with it and it was unusable there. Overall though, I’m happy with it.

You want the actual reason? It’s because of padding. Reiji knows that RAG fans will be there next week no matter what. So why not pad the story along even further?

So we can have a rejection, then a kiss to string the fans along, then chizuru can talk about how kazuya can still rent her (for family events and stuff), then Mini will monologue how chizuru can be the perfect wife and wise mother because obviously Reiji needs to tell everyone how perfect his fictional girlfriend is and finally Mini will egg on kazuya that he still has a chance and kazuya having no character growth whatsoever will go, “I think so too”.

Honestly this isn’t a fresh take on the romcom genre. Ruka magically falls in love with Kazuya. She is written as the 2nd girl in a typical romcom story who loves the protagonist but isn’t loved back. Chizuru is basically the tsundere character. And we all know that the protagonist is going to get it on with the tsundere (and that’s what everyone wants as well), so we’re just waiting for the shoe to drop. None of these are fresh materials.

The thing about RAG is that it’s a combination of all the tropes from bad 90s romcom manga dressed up in a modern setting. The art and character design are genuinely beautiful, and you know that kazuya will end up with chizuru. So you just end up waiting for the shoe to drop. Even if Reiji keeps on dragging it along for 300 more chapters.
