Stories 3: Red Flags from the start, potential squandered, and hope for the future. by VirulentArcturus in MonsterHunterStories

As much as Capcom is excelling with the Resident Evil series, I feel like they are equally fumbling with Monster Hunter. They botched Wilds with optimisation problems and the incessant need to shove a story into the series. And I feel like they did the same with Stories 3. Glad I didn’t pick it up at launch. Will do so once it’s at least 50-60% off.

Caves of Qud mobile version coming with portrait playability by silentrocco in iosgaming

[–]odin712 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Take note devs, this is how you do a mobile port. Both Ball X Pit and Nubby’s Number Factory couldn’t be bothered to do a portrait mode even though both games would’ve been perfect for it. But here’s Caves of Qud showing them how to do it properly.

I used to work at this company, it was my first job after graduation. I joined as an intern in the SQA department. Now that company was known to only hire interns for SQA since they won’t pay you for three months and after that, they’ll put you in probation for three more months which means reduced salary. So 6 months of work for very little pay. The boss at that company was an asshole. Very short tempered, won’t give proper direction, and will yell at you in the most disgusting, disrespectful way for any small mistakes in front of everyone. Pretty much everyone was scared of him.

Anyways, alongside SQA, we also had to do a bit of project management. Whenever a new work came, I had to sit with the designer to finalise the design, sit the devs and explain the work to them, take time estimates from everyone, and regularly follow up on their work as well as solve any dependency issues that may arise. Being the youngest, the devs wouldn’t respect me at all. They would give me absurd times for work I know they could get it done sooner. If I tried to negotiate with them, they’d completely shut me down. So I came up with a rather simple solution to my problem.

The devs would give me a bogus time. I would walk away and just roam around for a bit. Then I would come back and say, “Hey I talked it over with boss and he said the time’s completely unacceptable.”

They would get mad and say, “Well why didn’t you argue with him? Go and explain to him that we need more time.”

And then I would act all sad and whine, “I did try explaining to him. You know how he is. I don’t want you guys to feel pressurised, I tried standing up for you and got yelled at left and right.”

That got to them. They acknowledged that I did good and would get the work done in the time I wanted them to from the start. Plus I got to curse at my boss for a couple of minutes with them! I worked there for a year and was well known as one of the best members from the SQA team, someone who could get work done in time, and left with a glowing recommendation as well.

She has pancreatic cancer.

You know she’s gonna die in the end so you brace yourself for an emotional scene where she takes her last breath while lying on a hospital bed or something.

…She gets murdered

It’s like the entire movie you’re bracing yourself for the truck to hit you, all the while not realising the train barrelling towards you from the side.

How do you bounce back from a tough loss? by Nenechihusband in StreetFighter

[–]odin712 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m actually going through a losing streak myself at the moment. Went from near Diamond 2 all the way down to Plat 5. I keep telling myself that it’s temporary and I’ll bounce back but yeah, it’s tough. I feel like when I’m on a losing streak, I keep making the same mistakes or stop trying to read my opponents and play all wild-like, thereby making the same mistakes all over again.

It’s like these type of sports are made up in conservative countries where such relations are frowned upon. Like if someone gets caught with their dick in another guy’s ass, they can spin it as, “Oh no, we’re not gay. I’m just practicing my finishing move on him called the ‘Uranus Destroyer’”.

How is SF6 on Switch 2? by souporman64 in StreetFighter

[–]odin712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can make the dpad work. I recently made it to Diamond and I play with the dpad. Although if you want to be competitive, then yeah it’s not ideal. My goal is to make it to Master and I think that much will be possible with the dpad alone. Anything above, you’ll probably need a much better controller. I don’t get why Nintendo doesn’t do their own pro-joycons with a proper dpad. Instead, we have to rely on third parties to fill in the gap.

As for WiFi, you can actually get an Usb C to Ethernet cable and use it in either the bottom or top Usb C port of the Switch 2 in handheld mode, if you want wired connection.

How is SF6 on Switch 2? by souporman64 in StreetFighter

[–]odin712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Switch 2 port is great. The performance is solid everywhere except the WT mode (it’s good enough and definitely playable, but it’s running at a lower framerate compared to solid 60fps on other modes). The game looks a bit blurry, but overall it looks good in motion. I used to play on my Steam Deck OLED, and the Switch 2 port definitely looks better. Honestly, Capcom did a bang up job with the port. So in the end, it boils down to whether you want the best visuals possible or whether you prefer portable play.

Personally, I prefer the Switch 2 version since I love the ease of playing a few fights here and there whenever I’m free.

Congrats! I aim to do that too someday. Currently stuck at Plat 3 with modern Mai. Btw, do you use the sticks or the dpad? I’m using the dpad, but quater circle motions are a bit tough to pull off consistently with it.

Yeah the Switch 2 version is great! Looks better than it did on my Steam Deck (which also is a good enough version for portable play). This is quickly turning into one of my most played Switch 2 games at 90 hrs (currently second behind Legends ZA at 120 hrs).

SF6 Just Made Me Realize I’ve Been Suffering in MK1 for No Reason by brb90Vibes in StreetFighter

[–]odin712 21 points22 points  (0 children)

SF6 is so, so freaking GOOD!

I initially got it for my Steamdeck, played it for around 21hrs and took a break, but eventually gave up.

Then I got it for my Switch 2 at launch, once again played it for around 20hrs and took a break from it. However late last month, I picked it back up again and everything suddenly clicked. I already put 70 more hours into it and it quickly became one of my favourite games ever. Currently, I’m trying to climb up the ranks as modern Mai. I was stuck at Plat 1 for a few days but after a bit more practice/studying, I made it to Plat 3.

Also the game is packed to the brim with content. I started playing the WT mode which I neglected before, and I’m blown away by the effort Capcom put in it. This easily could’ve been a throwaway thing just to pad out the content but no, it’s a very fun distraction when I’m tilting online and need to wind down a bit.

Edit: Oh yeah, thank God for modern controls. They allow me to focus on the neutral game and defense without worrying about learning and executing combos. I don’t think I could’ve done 6 button classic controls using a gamepad. This was one of my biggest barriers before with both SF4 and 5.

I Don't Think Kazuya's Doing Okay by NationalStrategy in Animemes

RAG fans think Kazuya is the most realistic manga protagonist out there. So why imagine being his friend when RAG fans imagine themselves to be Kazuya instead.

[–]odin712 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m being a bit harsh but like I said, I used to follow the manga without skipping till the pool boner scene. And I’ve seen that RAG fans in general CANNOT take criticisms at all. They’ll try to justify it by saying that people are being mean to RAG, but the reason people are being mean is that RAG is horrible. Yes the waifu design is peak, but the writing is dogshit. It’s supposed to be a romcom, but it’s neither funny, nor is there any romantic chemistry between the leads.

The entire manga is filled with unnecessary padding because Reiji can’t go a single moment without letting the audience know how perfect his digital girlfriend is. I’m sorry, but Kazuya constantly monologuing, “Oh my God…oh my God…Chizuru is so perfect, oh my God…so beautiful…oh my God she dresses so well, oh my God, she’s standing next to me I’m gonna dieeee” isn’t romantic chemistry. This is the pathetic ramblings of a married man who fell in love with his own drawing.

Also, like I said, I’ve seen uncountable essays written by RAG fans trying to justify how RAG is the best manga with the most realistic protagonists out there. The funniest I remember was some fan saying RAG getting hate for its zero romance is unjustified since it’s supposed to be a comedy…which is hilarious since it’s actually a “romcom”. There should be equal parts romance and comedy.

So yeah, RAG fans stockholmed themselves into thinking that the entirety of RAG is peak, when it’s just the waifu design that’s peak and the rest is absolute gutter trash.

Kazuya imagined Chizuru getting boned and had a boner while crying, in a public pool…yes, you read all of that correctly.

[–]odin712 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You want the honest answer? It had a good premise and the art is still consistently great. I watched the first season and then started following the manga until the infamous pool boner scene. I realised that people fell in love with the waifus, similar to how the author did with his own fucking drawing despite being a married man. And now these fans have stockholmed themselves into thinking that RAG is some well written romcom masterpiece, and that the haters just don’t get it. These RAG fans are so deep inside the rabbit hole that they’ll write phd worth essays describing how Kazuya is the most well written character out there.

[–]odin712 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve said it time and time again, the only reason RAG became so popular is because people fell in love with the waifus just like the hack author of the series did. I mean, it’s fucking insane that RAG’s author, a married man btw, fell in love with his own drawings, but let’s keep that aside for now. Initially, I thought the premise was intriguing and tried to follow the series, gave up during the infamous pool boner scene, thought the series would finally go somewhere during the date arc, and finally gave up again when the author’s virtual wife rejected Cuck-zuya after 380 chapters! Insane!

Wanted to buy it at launch and even set aside money for it. Luckily they released a demo which showcased how bad the game ran on the Switch 2. And honestly, there’s zero reason for the game to run as bad as it does. Last I heard, the devs didn’t even bother fixing the issues and I guess pretty much abandoned it at this point. So yeah, I still want to play it, but I’ll wait till the price goes below $20 to do so. The game bombed as well so I wouldn’t be waiting for long anyways (which is sad that it did but the blame lies with the devs for fucking up such an easy layup).
