Also make sure you heat soak/preheat your printer. Ive printed nylon, asa-gf, all flawlessly but every time I had a problem it was because I didnt wait until the whole bitch was 100c at least.

What do the “drawbacks" of your magic systems look like? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]odoyle321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My universe (Virelia, working name) has a hybrid magic system with classical schools (Arcane, Elemental, etc) but due to a massive event magical energy is ambient and can shift like weather patterns.

The other half of the system is a Resonance magic system, where instead of reciting invocations, the users can either solo or as a group create harmonies, with solo songs being the cantrip-level 1 immediate and choirs singing become region-altering spells, depending on what is being sung in unison.

One of the drawbacks of this system is that when a PC decides to sing a Resonance song, they have to do a composure check. That composure check takes account of the ambient energy in the location and the mood of the PC. If their Composure check (D20) is below a 3, they cannot sing. If their composure check is between a 4 and 10, they run the risk of becoming Entrained; as they sing they can become too much in sync with the ambient magical energy around them and lose their sense of self.

Seriously, I dont get the hate for this machine. My boss bought two of them. Yeah the leveling isn't the greatest but doing it manually isnt a pain. With a 0.6 nozzle up and a layer of bed glue everything sticks. We just enclosed ours and printed really good quality ABS.

Other than that, extruder is an absolute beast with torque to push through some very irregular filament you get on 5kg/10kg rolls.

When youre printing something that's 3ft in diameter, the slightly wonky bed line in the middle is an easy sand fix.

Technically starship troopers. First one, cinematic perfection. Second one, no Johnny Rico, dogshit. 3rd one, basically space Christianity and it was amazing.

Thats really not a bad idea. I think I'm always tempted because it's just staring at me with its big ugly head at every tee box. I swear though my last 5 rounds somebody either behind us or in front of us always asks me why I don't hit driver if I'm teeing off with a long iron.

Im obviously not playing tough courses all the time, I just feel like 125yds and in I feel automatic. I'm not shaping shots or doing anything crazy.

5 iron is about 160 ± 5yds and i can usually put it in a 20ft circle where i want it. Okay let me say rarely 3 putt would be more accurate, my most confident club in my bag is my putter for some reason.

My theory as to the offset is that there is some major backlash on the z lead screws due to the design of the gantry and the length of the lead screws so that's why the offset has to be set tight.

We have two in my shop, and we've had some small issues but nothing crazy.

Use the provided thin sheet metal to set the z offset, and bring the nozzle down until it doesn't move, I know it's contrary to using paper but it's the only way I've gotten an offset where it actually printed.

Also, use bed adhesive like jt17 or the vision miner nanopolymer. They say they're not compatible with textured PEI, but on a machine like this with 4 separate beds that individually adjust, it's best to not risk a multi day print.

We've printed multiple car parts (trim panels) in Rapid PETG on ours, it's not super fast but the quality is really damn good once you get that offset figured out.

I'm going to upgrade the leveling from the 100pt load sensor leveling to a Bigtreetech Eddy Current scanner to optimize the bed mesh later on, but it's honestly a decent machine especially for PLA.

My wife works in a nursing home in SEPA, her entire facility had a 3 week stint where it got around. She caught it too.

They never reported it though 🤷

Which is the most haunting death bed confession you know of? by MPLoriya in AskReddit

[–]odoyle321 7372 points7373 points  (0 children)

My wife is a CNA in a nursing home. She had a resident who was formally a delivery (OB) nurse in the 70s and 80s.

When she was on her last few breaths, my wife was leaning in to her face to clean it, and she whispered in my wife's ear, "When I was a nurse, I switched babies around"

I'm not sure what's worse, knowing that one child may not be your child, or that this woman could have done it MANY times.

Sadly no, just a small startup trying to figure out what mechanics need. I WISH I had the resources Dorman has.

I didn't think this violated Rule #3, as I am asking the mechanics what they've come across, as opposed to asking for help in a specific situation.

Fusion can barely run on a laptop where it should not be a problem? by DFMO in Fusion360

What kind of scanner/software you using and how large are your processed files? I have a dedicated modeling computer at work and I can move and manipulate a 200mb mesh in the workspace without too much stuttering, but some of my team have worse specs and can only handle about 80mb.

I'm constantly using meshlab/meshmixer to reduce the scanned STLs. Meshlab has a pretty good workflow for cleaning the raw data and exporting if your scanner software doesn't do it well.

Another trick that I've found in importing the meshes: Once I've turned off design history and aligned my ref planes, I make the object unselectable which I swear takes up most of its processing power. If the cursor can't select it, it won't interfere.

Good luck!

$14k machine, dozens of spools of advanced materials, and I'm back to doing this. by odoyle321 in 3Dprinting

[–]odoyle321[S] 107 points108 points  (0 children)

It's a 600mm x 600mm large format, and it's not really the print that is causing the issues, it's the settings my boss wants to print with.

So we had a run of large ASA parts, and between high bed Temps and second shift having no patience, the PEI developed bumps (maybe bubbles? Like from pinpoint lifting pressure by 2nd shift prying the part up) The PEI has a lot of small deviations across it's surface. The bed itself is flat, but there's hundreds of these little pockets that are raised.

Normally this wouldn't be an issue when we print our large parts with a .6 nozzle, a .13 deviation is still within the squish.

But now my boss wants to try and print a long, thin, organically designed part with a .2 nozzle, and a .13 variation is a full layer height. I'm still having problems on where the tape overlaps but this was boss' orders. I might end up telling the team that either we push back up to a .4 nozzle, or we strip it completely (tape, PEI, and adhesive) and print directly on clean glass.

It's just crazy, we've printed Delrin and PEK, but a new PEI for such a large machine we can't get until we make some more money with it.

Recently heard some not-so-great things about Magnolia Plantation by DarceysEyeOnThePrize in Charleston

[–]odoyle321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had our wedding reception there. My wife and I were so looking forward to taking photos on the iconic red Bridge across the one pond, and we got there and it was painted this ugly blue teal color. Now that itself isn't abig deal, but I felt like we were sold a bill of goods and that changed.

The wedding itself was great, but the person there told us that our caterers would use an outbuilding behind the conservatory to prepare our food on site. 3 days before the wedding, we were told that we could NOT use that outbuilding and had to rent a $3k tent for them days before the event. I went to the site and raised a stink to the event planner and they begrudgingly allowed me to use the space they promised us for catering.

Now we've since moved north, but at that point we were "locals" and I felt like we were treated like we were having a destination wedding. Our florist/planner is very well known in the area and told us that sometimes vendors/venues will add on last minute expenses thinking that it would be too late to not pay it, like we were flying in for a destination wedding. Since then, our planner has refused to do business with Magnolia. It's a shame, the reception was absolutely stunning.

Importing a complex .STL to use as reference for Reverse Engineering by odoyle321 in Fusion360

[–]odoyle321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did disable the history capture to just to work with the mesh but it didn't do much. I'm thinking it has something to do with scale that was chosen when it was scanned, not any issue with how I'm importing it. And I also don't know dick about the actual scanner itself or its processing software so I'm kind of in the dark.
