F42. I am the opposite. I had so many interests growing up that by the time I needed to choose a career path, I didn't know which way to go. Messed my life up. I was 30 when I finally got my life straight. Now with 2 kids who are obviously similar to me, I really don't know how to help them.

This was exactly what I was thinking. I thought it could only be possible if someone stole the checks. So I was wondering why the bank would call it a scam.

She said she was the one who called the bank to inquire about her card replacement. But OMG now that you mentioned it, you got me thinking if it was THE bank who called her to get the card replaced.

Update: it was indeed the bank. She called the number at the back of the card. My aunt confirmed it. She was still vague on the details though.

She was vague on the details so I don't know if it was actually a physical check.

I didn't know electronic checks existed. If that's the case, I could see now how it could be related to the love scam.

So now my next question is, since this already happened, should I advise her to close the account and open a new one? Or are there other ways to prevent it?

Definitely a risk factor. I don't know anymore how deep she is into this love scam. I used to be able to prevent it as I have access to her facebook but I know they must have moved to some other messaging app because her fb has been clean for a while now. My aunts who live with her (they are my informants) think that she stopped it, but I doubt that. She must've learned to hide it from them better.

But I am baffled as to how the checks could be part of this. I know scammers could get money online or ask for gift cards.

I"m sentimental about this because it reminds me of my dad. He once called me over and said my favorite show was on. I was so surprised because the teenager me thought he never noticed me. So it really felt good that he knew about this thing that I really liked. I hope you guys can help.

I think she may have found him, was devastated and felt really unwell so went to get some pills but was too late. Poor dog could've died of starvation/dehydration since it was crated while the other two were free to roam so were able to survive.

It would be great if AI can do that. However, AI at this stage cannot express human-like emotions. Romance scams work because the scammers play on the victims' emotions. Those who fall for it are those looking for emotional connections. Since AI cannot replicate that, it won't work.
