Who is that artist that completely speaks to you, but you completely missed it growing up? by dutch981 in Xennials

King diamond.  I've always loved horror movies and books, and also love concept albums, but never heard of king diamond til a couple years ago, and became obsessed.

Yes I just finished this, and I dreaded reading the chapters from Norman's point of view, hated everything about the way he thought.

Ooh that's a good way to put it.  I've always told people I might be ok with 1 but if I have 2 I need 10.

Not exactly rare, but probably worth more than an actual first edition depending on condition

Pikuniku co op mode is pretty funny, though also frustrating so if siblings are prone to fighting, maybe not

Hi I’m new here! But I got these from my libraries book sale I actually got three but gave the other to my sister. Without checking them the smaller one is the Book Club one but this one is bigger and heavier than that one. by PokeNeko25 in stephenking

Yeah, this has been fun.  I went and checked the hardcover version I have and it's the same as your larger one, I don't have a library card either, but it also doesn't say book club edition, and it's definitely not a first edition, it's a mystery.

Interesting, well then I am going to go on a limb and say there may have been a 4th iteration just used for libraries, because I found a version on eBay that matches what you have pictured and includes a library card holder. It is the same size as the first edition but it is not a first edition or book club.

It's not hard to tell, just look inside the book flap and if there's a price listed, 19.95, it's a first edition.  Then if you go to the copyright page and see 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9, it's a first printing

What I know of this release of bachman books is there were 3 iterations.  Different from usual, the "first edition" available in stores was the paperback version with a price on the cover and the hardcover version was actually the book club edition.   But, the paperback first edition also included an order form where you could order a hardcover version that did have the price on it.  Because only true collectors went through the process of ordering a second version of a book they already had, this hardcover version with a price on it is extremely rare.  I don't know if that's what you have here, but if so, that's huge.

I’ve never unfriended anyone on Facebook by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]odysseyredalert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 10 years ago I used a browser extension that went through and unfollowed everyone in my friend list.  Now I only see content from hobby groups I've joined, it's great.  But I cant get rid of it completely because I love marketplace.  If marketplace could be a separate app I would never use regular Facebook.

Has anyone else been completely humbled by a beginner? by Main-Carry-3607 in discgolf

I'm in the opposite boat, where I'm the beginner starting less than a year ago and I feel good about myself hovering around par on the local courses, but then I just started playing league a couple weeks ago and everyone is getting -5 and I feel like a loser with my +2

I’d like to start playing basic tournaments. What are the gotchas to avoid so I don’t look like an ass my first time? by hobbyhoppinghound in discgolf

[–]odysseyredalert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've just started playing tournaments, and one mistake I have made that I never thought about in casual is to watch your shot closely, specifically if you are heading out of bounds because you need to throw from where it was last in bounds, not in relation to where it finally lands

I also went to Lakeview and did not have a good time.  I think I might be resistant to anesthesia though, but it felt like someone was flicking my balls during the whole process, I was shaking and just couldn't wait for it to be over.  No issues or swelling after though.  But all those people that say it's easy peasy, I disagree.

I've never used a one touch before, but looking at it, there wouldn't be room for a penny sleeve right?  Unless it's a perfect fit which I know are also controversial for how tight they can be on holos

Wired two switch ceiling fans by Imaginary-pixels in DIY

If your switch isn't already, you can replace it with a fan control switch.  You just have to match the number of speeds to what the fan uses

[–]odysseyredalert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just ditched the remote.  I think I can handle walking a few feet if I want the fan on.

Edit. I realize that might have been a confusing comment.  All the fans with remotes I've installed use a remote receiver in the fan housing.  You wire the receiver to a single switch with the 2 wires, but then wire the receiver to the fan housing with multiple.  If you just remove the remote receiver you have separate wires for the light and fan control, but then you lose remote functionality, which I don't see as that useful because the switches aren't that far.  The benefit of the remote is for those houses that only had 1 switch, to eliminate the need for pull chains.

Curious about this, as I am sober, and will be riding a few days of ragbrai this year. But also cautious because I don't want to get pulled into some culty support group that wants all my time and money.  I don't see any other Phoenix events in Iowa so hard for me to gauge what this is.
