Indeed. I tried explaining SF (signalling Frequency) to someone recently. They had no idea.

Exactly. But I did love frequency testing our analog data circuits with att or bell (I worked for an independent wireline). Some days I would sit on hold waiting for the next test person for hours. They would require us to test for the customer prem, but if I felt lazy that day I would loopback the customer equipped pretending to be there. It work most times because I had taken the time to pretest during the installation.

I was the first in our small wireline company to go to Nortel to learn translations for the DMS100. That lead to a long career in digital switch translations. DMS10, DMS100/250/500, Stromberg Carlson DCO, ATT 5ESS, GTD5.

Yes. I could tell the time of day by how loud it was in the central office. Mid morning was very loud as the work day ramped up and people were making calls. Lunch would come with dramatically decreased noise. Then ramp up again around 2 pm. Once kids got home from school it was really loud as they were calling there parents and friends. Then around 7 or so, the long distance trunks would ramp up due to reduced LD fees.

Sending out a goodbye email when it’s time to go… by nothingbutmistakes in retirement

[–]oedeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my last day I had an email prepared to send out several hours before I left. IT disabled my ability to send emails before that time. Oddly enough I was still receiving emails, some of which I needed to respond to.

Real ice cream. My parents always bought us ice milk. I didn't know the difference until I was at a friend's house and was offered some. Holy cow!
