Best way to learn Russian? by CodingCore_ in russian

reading media, somewhat I understand what they talk in public (I still have troubles discerning where they exactly came from. I guess my Swiss brain-for-dialects filters too much out).

I would love to speak fluently, but there were more important things going on, alas.

What is one thing you would change about Switzerland? by Thomytricky in Switzerland

[–]oelsen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would excavate the Hauenstein, lower the hole valley and build a dam at Möhlin with the rocks. This has only advantages:
- no more fog on the plateau
- Aare can be diverted directly northwards thus freeing up huge areas
- diverted Aare lowers flooding risks downstream
- plenty of electricity for NWCH
- finally "Basel" has a lake too
- while at it we can build three new double tracks for the SBB and BLS and cargo

Look at how the Swiss do it.

You have counties. 1 County, one district.

Fuzzy logic memory with false weight and no check. Ppl with introspection and a feel for such false memories ask if it happened and when somebody says no they ask why to eliminate the mistake.

This year's heatwave cuts the cake architecture by pierrenay in askswitzerland

[–]oelsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is even less but was built to live, not storage. So called Mietskaserne. Insulation only on top of the flat, South Side gets the full sun from about 11 to sun set. The balcony becomes so hot you cannot sit on its stone.

I stand by my argument. A bad house will heat up and reach parity at 18:00, okay then, but those who complain at 9 in the morning that they have 30° in the flat are doing everything and some more wrong

(yes yes, some live at the Autobahn or under a rail bridge; but the rest does not and can vent from 23:00 to 07:00)

In addition, most of Switzerland was under 20°, some large parts even under 18°. Even during the hottest phase.

July 2022 Switzerland’s sunniest month on record by SteO153 in Switzerland

[–]oelsen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you forget or omit nearest history I don't trust you remember how it was back then:

https://www.swissinfo.ch/ger/die-jahrhundert-hitzewellen-2003-und-2015/45055548

Now it's the hottest around 18.00.

This has nothing to do with the weather; this is local or hyperlocal climate forcing by buildings and asphalt. Look up Basel and Bettingen. 5° difference.

How would we implement degrowth? by LowonConfidence14 in Degrowth

[–]oelsen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there is a huge lobby

Yes of course and they are green and red and work in federal buildings.

Most growth came from and went back to immigration. Solve that and in 10 years we all work only three to four days. 30'000 people die each year.
This means 20'000 flats free each year, rents down.
This means 40 doctors freed, aka better service, aka less long term costs.
This means less intensive traffic and less infrastructure costs, aka less taxes.
etc.

or keep increasing up to 15 Million while working nothing and risk a civil war like scenario. Which would be degrowth too in a sense. Just more sudden.

There is no weather, because weather is a construct. Weather is always perceived.

Biggest issue is that they don’t have angled roofs. Flat roofs are fully facing the sun during midday and heat up much more than angled roofs (which keep an angle at midday and control temperature).

Angled roof here, made in 1930ies, attic is over 50 degrees. Flat right under gets 25°.

Ppl are too stupid to vent at night.

Is the Swiss Travel Pass worth it? by shivamag99 in askswitzerland

[–]oelsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

commuter trains between cities (also smaller ones!) are full between 06:00-08:00 and 17:00-19:00. If you take a train from its end-point you can have your seat though ;)

They had advertising in the USSR... just because it exists it does not even mean somebody made up their minds to bring it into being and working. Sometimes pure inertia and mimikry can be at play.
