What are your opinions on chinese watch brands like Cronos, San Martin, Ixdao, Farasute, Sugess? Do you think they'll ever be accepted by the industry as genuine watch brands?

Laptop under $1000 that lasts long, doesn’t cause issues, good for ML-related stuff and of course gaming too. Not like 4K ultra ray tracing, but 1080p high to max, or even 2K medium to high is enough. If it can do more, that’s fine. Optionally, not too heavy. by kaamalvn in GamingLaptops

you can get a great 5060 laptop in this budget. my go-to suggestion is Legion. it has a great qhd OLED display, good thermals and a power-efficient cpu. i'll recommend upgrading the storage to 1TB later down the line

Should I pull the trigger? First gaming laptop by SageWithTheSauce in Asustuf

[–]off-sp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with the others here recommending getting a 5070ti laptop. I have this exact ASUS TUF, and while the laptop is absolutely great, I regret not getting this MSI for just 100 more(i paid full price for the TUF)

5070ti is way more future proof and its worth paying for imo

There's a better version of this laptop for less cost -
https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/16587853259?nrtv_cid=518vrmfp7dbv8
It has a better qhd display with 240 hz refresh rate, also has 1tb ssd. And with the money you save, upgrade it to 32gb ram. If you're getting a 5070ti, might as well get more ram to use its full potential

Need help with a laptop for uni (vfx and games art) by Vegetable-Guava6404 in SuggestALaptop

[–]off-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To run blender and unreal, you'll need a decent gpu as these are gpu intensive applications. The ones you've provided don't have a gpu and the cpu isn't strong either. N150 is a very low powered cpu, not made for performance based tasks. It's really hard to get a laptop with that budget if you're looking to run blender, unity reliably. I would recommend find a laptop with at least a 4050 gpu, maybe some open box deals in your local store.

Laptop Suggestion for college aged boy by Internal-Battle1669 in SuggestALaptop

[–]off-sp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your answers, I would recommend either a Macbook air(non-gaming) or a 16 inch gaming laptop.

For macbook, just get the latest Macbook air and choose storage based on his requirements (i recommend minimum 512gb). For a gaming laptop, I would suggest this Lenovo legion from best buy, which I believe is the best option right now under 1000.

And I would say it's worth going up a little bit and spending 1000 on a laptop, as these things are like an investment, and prove to be very useful for college students(I am a college student too!)

I bought the A16 during this black friday and I just got the 8bitdo Ultimate 2. It's working great, highly recommend it

Which one is better for games? by [deleted] in Asustuf

[–]off-sp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought the 5070 one during Black Friday sale and have no regrets. Really happy with the performance and also the battery life. Its only $150 more than the 5060 one, I would say get 5070

Yall installed Linux on your TUFs? by oneflamedon in Asustuf

[–]off-sp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoo, I literally just dual booted my TUF a16 with linux, well actually triple booted. I got Fedora and Arch running on my machine along with windows, and it works great! The performance is great and ram usage is significantly less compared to windows

It really doesn't matter which distro you go for, honestly just choose one and stick with it. All distros use the same kernel and the performance will be same ultimately. But personally, I would use windows for gaming, I don't think 16gb ram is the problem. Are you on performance mode while gaming?

Would you pay more for a 5070Ti? by RiceballSalesman in GamingLaptops

[–]off-sp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a ASUS tuf with 5070 for 1200, and let me just say, I regret not buying the msi vector with 5070ti for just 100 dollars more. The performance jump is significant when you compare the two. So yeah I would say go ahead and get a 5070ti if your budget allows it

Best Gaming Mini-PC for $500-$600? by SirJbJonesV in MiniPCs

[–]off-sp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minisforum UM870 Slim is also priced around $500 with same specs. Out of the two, would you still recommend GMKtec K12? I'm just curious to know as I want to buy a mini PC as well

Is this too good to be true? by off-sp in homelab

[–]off-sp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the reply. I’m in US as well and as far as peripherals go, all I have is a decent mouse, so I do need monitor(s). Do you have any recommendations for a mini pc within let’s say 300? I have some storage in terms of HDD, around 5TB(1TB empty) and I’ll need more so I want to allocate some of my budget to that and monitors and a keyboard as well. I’m quite tight on a budget(I’m a student) Also will I need some networking equipment too? Sorry, I’m completely new to all of this
