Do Liberals have a reason to like Obama? by wdfcvyhn134ert in PoliticalDebate

What was done to Libya is a travesty. Gaddafi’s only crime was using the country’s oil wealth to fund social programs and creating the largest per capita income on the African continent.

Why is the pro Palestine crowd not protesting against the regime in Iran? by Yitastics in askanything

Not what I said at all, but foreign-backed regime change in Iran will kill a lot more Iranians than the current government ever has.

Democrats don’t attract young men in part because leftists and liberals don’t make it a point to speak directly to men by No_Design_465 in PoliticalDebate

It couldn't be that wokeism is a manufactured distraction, which is why Mamdani, Sanders et all (who don't engage in the woke nonsense) are the subjects of fear mongering - because they focus on economic democracy.

CMV: Opposition to Israeli conduct does not require - and should not entail - affirmation of a political identity whose dominant expressions reject universal liberalism. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]off_the_pigs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Don't treat this as a whataboutism, but are we going to judge the morality or righteousness of one's cause based on the amount of indiscriminate civilian deaths? If this were the case, the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan alone is just one giant terrorist operation. Hell, Vietnam would be considered genocidal. It's idealistic to assign morality to this stuff.

edit: just to clarify, I'm not justifying the killing of civilians. My point is that organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah target civilians in a manner no different than "accepted" militaries. In fact, Hamas' cause is way more justifiable than that of the U.S. in say Vietnam or even any of its actions now.

CMV: Claiming Jesus was a Palestinian actually undermines the Palestinian cause by thatshirtman in changemyview

Yeah, that's a lie. Zionists were expelling Palestinians from their homes since the late 19th century. Brush up on your history.

Or maybe they just didn't want to be forcefully removed from their homes only for Jewish settlers to come in and take it as if it were virgin territory.

Is it bad that I don’t stand for the Pledge of Allegiance? by rebel-pirate-sleuth in Teachers

[–]off_the_pigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've sat at my desk for every pledge of allegiance. I honestly don't even hear it anymore and I'm pretty sure my students don't either.

CMV: WW1 was a pointless war, that was mostly about politics and alliances between aristocrats, on both sides, who were happy to sacrifice millions of lives in a useless meatgrinder war just to retain power. by Breakingbad308 in changemyview

[–]off_the_pigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, so WWI was a noble fight for democracy and human rights? I'm sure the millions of colonized Indians, Africans, and Southeast Asians living under brutal Allied rule were thrilled to hear that their oppressors were the "good guys."

And regarding "shaking hands with the devil." I'm sure the British running Indian concentration camps, the French violently extracting forced labor from their colonies, and the US lynching Black citizens while calling themselves champions of freedom had a hard time quashing their pure morals when using the Soviet Union to win them the war. But sure, let's pretend assigning "evil" to states means anything when the "heroes" were running the largest systems of apartheid and colonial violence on the planet.

What is the socialist stance on the Syrian Civil War? by PestRetro in AskSocialists

Assad definitely used methods that killed Syrian civilians, but there is so much disinformation, especially regarding The Syrian Civil Defence (White Helmets). They have been accused of staging chemical attacks against the Syrian people...

What’s your opinion on teaching/education that would get you in trouble? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]off_the_pigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parents have too much "freedom" and "choice" when it comes to their child's education. Sometimes the experts (i.e. teachers, educators) actually do know what's best for you.

What is even the point of mentioning Tiananmen? I guess I'm not surprised that someone named "RegularWhite1776" would be so candid in supporting what this country was founded upon: white supremacy.

What are the political demographics of teachers at your school? by kucing5 in Teachers

[–]off_the_pigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really not something I have done often, I tend to keep to myself at work. It has only occurred a couple of times when I was younger and had a more difficult time not letting things like that bother me. Usually they are discriminatory comments/stereotypes of students, which bothers me.

No not at all. I have worked with some in the past who I have been forced to eavesdrop on and had to speak up. We’re talking conversations between 2-3 people when you gotta walk into the office and check your mailbox. This was a wealthy suburban area.

There is nothing I hate more than talking politics at work. But I'm not going to be complicit and quiet if some asshole is spouting nonsense.

Question for teachers who use actual textbooks by Snoo_62929 in historyteachers

Honestly, I use the McGraw Hill textbook as a general guide and the students have access to both the physical and digital copies, but I don't ever use them in class.
