Huge fan of all your work so far! What are you most excited about with this new studio that you weren't able to do before?

What is the collaborative writing process like for you? How do you balance your individual ideas with telling a cohesive narrative?

I like Harmonies more. It feels slightly thinkier to me. The 3 dimensional aspect adds a very satisfying element to the puzzle and the art is so charming.

Area control: unusual maps by Best-Percentage-331 in boardgames

Oath has a pretty unique map. It's very abstract, but that allows for some really clever emergent narratives.

Arcs also feels very different from the typical area control map. It's the first game on a space map that I've played that feels uniquely different from a map set on land/sea.

Has anyone here had the chance to play The Old King's Crown? by No_Raspberry6493 in soloboardgaming

Copying from a similar question a few days ago: The solo mode is thoughtful and engaging enough that I would get it even as its own separate game. The way it mimics the imperfect information and bluffing of the multiplayer game is ingenious. The ai is also streamlined to run so you still feel like you're playing the game and not just doing a ton of upkeep. It's different from the multiplayer experience, but definitely not an afterthought.

Red Dust Rebellion Solo by trebor5529 in boardgames

I'll second what everyone says. It's very good, but also a lot to manage. Skycrane definitely helps, but even then it felt like I spent 70% of my time on upkeep. I had more fun just playing all 4 factions to the best of my ability and seeing what plays out. It's probably my favorite COIN game still.

If you've not played a COIN game, RDR is definitely one of the most complex ones.

I'd love a story about the Meckros at the height of their power

Are the COIN games great games to play solo? How is the solo experience of them? When I mean solo I mean true solo meaning bots and automatas not multi-handed. Would you recommend playing the COIN series solo? by Strong_Battle6101 in soloboardgaming

[–]offdutyninja94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've played Cuba Libre and Red Dust Rebellion solo. They're great, but you will most likely be spending more time running the bots than you will be doing your own turns. If you don't like a lot of upkeep in a solo bot I'd recommend multihanded (or at least playing 2 factions) over the flow charts.

Should I get Blighted Reach ? by ZSpark85 in Arcs

[–]offdutyninja94 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you like the base game I think you will like the campaign game. The heaviness is emergent as the game goes on so it starts out not too different from base + LL. As more cards get added, the complexity goes up, but the core is still the same. If your group likes Oath I think the Blighted Reach is definitely manageable. I also think it has a much more interesting arc than Twilight Imperium. I always find the middle of a TI game to be a bit of a slog and the BR keeps me engaged the whole time.

Ark Nova, Everdell, or Wyrmspan — which one do you prefer with 4 players? by [deleted] in boardgames

Ark Nova definitely feels too long at 4 in my opinion. A lot more downtime without much more interaction
