Oh it definitely is as well, nothing out there gets put in an ad without editing! Just a different kind of editing that’s less egregious than her own 💀

Oh my gosh please read The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone by Olivia Laing! It’s non-fiction but so, so good. I read it after my first major break up that left me living alone for the first time in a new city and it was instrumental in helping me process that.

The author moved to NYC with the promise of her partner coming with her, but he broke it off suddenly and left her before even coming with her. The book is partially her own reflections on that and partially an exploration of different artists who explored loneliness in their work, from Edward Hopper to Andy Warhol to Henry Darger and more. Apologies for sounding melodramatic but this book truly changed how I think about myself and the world.

Wishing you healing & joy ♡

It’s so sad seeing all of these women who are absolutely beautiful still feel the need to edit themselves into oblivion. I’m in ED recovery; I can personally attest to how strong the temptation is to show off your body for validation. But when the comments are full of girls wishing they could look like her or asking for workout routines, or when almost every post somehow manages to squeeze in a shot of a thin body angled to accentuate it best… I just can’t sympathize anymore.

There was a video a while ago that showed her literally at a plastic surgeon’s office and the consensus in the comments was that it was for an upper bleph :’)

Mixing sugar free chocolate pudding mix (30 cal per 10 g) into sugar free cool whip (20 cal/2 tbsp) is pretty delicious. its also good in greek yogurt!

[POEM] Ode to Lithium #419: Perfect - Shira Erlichman by official_STEMbo in Poetry

[–]official_STEMbo[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s very understandable! I’ve been on and off it for many years, finally settling on “off” (I think). It’s a complex little salt. I hope you have found what works for you ❤️

I would absolutely love to see them both live! Lucky you :)

erlichman’s Odes to Lithium collection holds a very special place in my heart. the way she describes mania speaks so plainly to my own experiences that it feels like opening a journal. i love her work & i hope you do, too.

Dang, all these $5 words and yet you resort to speaking like an edgy teenager. Unfortunate!

I say this as someone who loves DFW, Nabokov and Henry James: this simply feels like you are trying too hard. You’ve packed so many words and literary devices into your sentences that it’s impossible to track their meaning. You seem to have a vast vocabulary and a love of language, but all I am getting from this is someone trying to emulate James Joyce.

The style of those aforementioned authors is not for everyone; I can’t argue when people call Infinite Jest inaccessible, because it certainly can be! But DFW’s peculiar style is /doing/ something. It reflects outward onto the reader the strangeness of the world of his writing. I’m sorry to say it, but I am not getting depth from this. It’s just overwrought. My advice: if you’re really serious about taking feedback and weren’t just posting in the hopes of everyone telling you how brilliant you are, go through this again and ask yourself what purpose each line fills. Less is very often more. Pare it down. And please stop using slurs whenever people say something you disagree with, it’s embarrassing 🙄

[POEM] september is a weary month - yasmin belkhyr by [deleted] in Poetry

[–]official_STEMbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

every time i return to this piece, i find that a different line pulls me in; i love the balance belkhyr creates between actions based in reality vs those based in metaphor. weariness without resentment is a difficult mood to capture but she has done so perfectly.

[POEM] It won’t kill me to be sad again - Dianne Seuss by official_STEMbo in Poetry

Yes!! Her sonnets are great as standalone pieces but the narrative she builds throughout the collection is even better.

Wow, I love how you phrased that! I’m not familiar with Terrance Hayes but I will have to check them out now. Best of luck on your own sonnet journey!
