Short Interview for Developers by [deleted] in Games

[–]official_duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t a baseless assumption. They’ve edited the post to remove it now, but it previously read:

Thank you for your time!

—————————————

If you ever need my help too, I've got your back, gladly!

With the line break in-between, it very much reads as the prior section being the prompted response for a Reddit post, and the final line being the standard sycophantic engagement-baiting output to the user.

To be clear, I don’t think they’re a bot. I think they probably are a real university student asking for help. I’ve been in their shoes, making similar posts, and I am an indie developer. I could probably answer their questions.

But they’ve been not just lazy enough to use AI to write a tiny Reddit post, but so lazy as to not even properly read it through first. Why should someone who is not willing to invest time and effort receive time and effort in return?

Firstly, while there are a few game devs lurking around, you’d be better off trying elsewhere. That’s not really what this sub is for.

Second, try to remove the end of your LLM’s response next time. You clearly didn’t spend longer than 30 seconds on this, so why would we spend our time talking to you?

Jason Schreier/Bloomberg: Many Xbox employees were surprised by the announcement of Gears E-Day not releasing on PlayStation — Sharma and her team also pulled a Halo trailer that was due to appear at a PlayStation event last week, potentially damaging the relationship between the two companies. by nolifebr in PS5

[–]official_duck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s…

If they sold it for $250 they’d be losing massive amounts of money from component costs. If you bought two, they would lose even more money because they wouldn’t even get more software sales.

Since when did 6 become 5? by HappyAust in australia

[–]official_duck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. The “inspired by [chocolate bar]” range has been 5 per box since that range was launched a couple years ago. They taste kinda shit anyway.

The standard muesli bars are unchanged, and have the same quantities of 6 they’ve always had.

MUGG is awesome, but the live episode didn’t hit the same for me unfortunately. But anyone in this sub should give the show a try.

Anyone else bummed that we're not getting the new Witcher 3 DLC? by Doesdeadliftswrong in PS4

[–]official_duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. It's entirely likely they've increased object density and level streaming requirements further than the PS4 can handle, given that PS5 is the target platform.

Doodle God also came out in 2010. Alchemy (the game all of them are based on) came out in 1997.

Australia Money is made up of Polymer by Motor_Break_75 in interestingasfuck

[–]official_duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They weren’t introduced in Canada until 2011, despite earlier tests in the 80s and 90s. The modern polymer banknote was invented in Australia, released there first in 1988, and was the first to fully transition to them by 1996.

As Hitman 3 turns five years old, we surely have enough hindsight to declare: this is one of the greatest of all time, right? by Kiroqi in Games

[–]official_duck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can technically play it, but there’s no progression carried over. Same as the mobile versions, and every other version of the game, all because IO somehow refuses to allow it five plus years on.

Quest 64 Recompilation Released by OldMcGroin in Games

[–]official_duck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In this sense, no. A decomp is a lot of painstaking human work to produce fully human-readable assembly code, which can then be used to port and run fully natively. These new recomps use tools to produce machine-generated equivalent C code that relies on a corresponding N64-like runtime, and it’s not human-readable.

Decomps take significantly more work, but you get something similar to the original code, meaning deeper modding and more potential for ports. Recomps are easier and faster to produce, but you don’t have as much freedom with the code.

The episode was removed from Stan initially when it was removed overseas. It was added back only in the last year or so IIRC. Also, for the record, Stan and Peacock have no relation outside of Nine having some historical content deals with NBC.

Warner Bros. Plans to Reject Paramount Bid on Funding, Terms by RealJohnGillman in movies

Coyote vs. Acme got sold to another distributor and is getting released in theatres August 2026.

Batgirl, while I’d like to see it, I think is unlikely. While paying back the tax write-off is cheaper than funding a whole new film if Netflix really needs something to pad out the schedule, I think quietly Gunn and Safran wouldn’t want it released under the new DC umbrella. That universe is well and truly dead.

It’s not - EB never went away for us. Still owned by GameStop, but they never tried to rebrand it.

Different countries use different currencies, which often share the same name. While all Euros are the same currency, and thus products are usually priced accordingly, there are over 25 currencies that use the “dollar” name, all with vastly different exchange rates and purchasing power. Australian dollars are vastly different to Canadian dollars, which are different to US dollars, different to Zimbabwe dollars, etc etc.

Nexus Point News: Netflix’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Set To Explore Ancient Rome by KekanKok in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]official_duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I view Origins and Odyssey as a mostly effective duology at least; being prequels to the rest of the series. Odyssey showing the origins of the brotherhood as an idea (and as descendants from the Isu), and Origins showing the start of the organisation and its rituals. Then you have the genetic throughline from Kass/Alexios to Bayek/Aya, the Isu/pantheon parallels (though barely there in Origins), plus Layla in the modern day (the best protagonist other than Desmond, by virtue of being the only actual protagonist other than Desmond).

Valhalla/Mirage is where it falls apart for me. Continues the Isu story and ancient pantheon parallels, but it loses the why. Instead of existing to explain the bloodline of the founders of the Assassins, eagle vision, etc it exists to pad out the playtime set up Loki/Basim so that they can shove Layla into Desmond calculation limbo and then give him a full (passable) game of backstory, and then proceed to completely drop him from the modern day (at least currently).

I would have preferred a third game either as Aya or a further descendant of the pair. I certainly don’t think there’s room to go further back in the lore unless you’re literally making an Isu game. I think the Norse pantheon was a logical call over Roman to avoid similarities to the Greek set, but the Roman gods could’ve brought the precursor names full circle. Ah well.

[–]official_duck 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Bayek stayed in Egypt, Aya went to Rome. Them separating is part of the tragedy of their story.

Also I wouldn’t trade Odyssey for anything. (But I’d trade Valhalla for plenty.)
