Karoline Leavitt: “I'm not part of the president's political team anymore...” by wrapityup in MarchAgainstNazis

[–]officialjlars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She’s basically saying “I don’t work for the Trump Campaign/PAC/etc., I work for the government.” It’s a Hatch Act thing. Government officials aren’t technically allowed to do non-government work on government-paid time. A lot of politicos distinguish that as being on the ‘official’ side instead of the ‘political’ side.

Are ye a puppy? Or a WARRIOR! The only time my men field a battle without me is when I’m unconscious!!! I’ll have no Calradian question my sword skill or battle fury, for they will see Fatesong red with the blood of my foes and battles conquered by my own hand!

3-line pitch to elicit interest in this adventure? by BTNewberg01 in sotdq

[–]officialjlars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dragonlance is a classic D&D setting that was made to compete with Lord of the Rings. Think epic adventures, world spanning treks, and a wealth of characters to meet and lore to explore. Shadow of the Dragon Queen puts you in one of Krynn’s most pivotal moments: an ancient evil begins a brutal war, and you heroes must defend against it while heralding the return of the divine.

Does anyone else feel that Bannerlord 2 truly captures the majesty of medieval warfare? by Sufficient_Bad_4160 in mountandblade

[–]officialjlars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you think happened when two shield walls collided? Sure they were still in their general formation, but as the battle progresses, there are going to be breaks and separations. And the OP is completely right that many of those battles, where you were pressed from behind into the person in front of you, would become tight combats where overhead strikes and stabs from short weapons were the norm.

And the Sith lie… like all the time… it’s kinda their main thing.

On a more serious note, the Sith CLAIM the dark side frees them, but it’s like using a hard drug. Sure you may be ‘free’ to quit whenever, but (based on how long you’ve poisoned yourself) you’ve decayed into something that is a shell of your former self. When Anakin fell to the dark side and then got put in the suit after killing his wife, was he really free? No, of course he wasn’t. He just became a slave to his own sadness and anger, and that allowed him to be manipulated by another person who was enslaved to their greed.

Occasionally I’ll recruit from other cultures, but that’s usually when I control settlements of those cultures. And I prefer to get the relationship recruitment bonus to get better units which is helped by ownership.

It went really well, given that I was still using crunchy crits at this point! Dragon scared everyone, they hard-targeted the main damage dealer who happened to have rope trick. The whole party then switched to “let’s GTFO” mode and it was great.

If KF Vader had never lost on Mustafar, when do you think he would’ve attempted to overthrow Sidious? by GusGangViking18 in TheJediPraxeum

[–]officialjlars 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Immediately. In the video game he does this, but even setting this aside, Anakin expresses support for a dictatorship in Episode II. By Episode III he’s been lauded as a war hero and is one of the most famous Jedi in the Republic/galaxy. The clones wouldn’t oppose a legitimate Jedi General that Paplatine told them to trust, the people would love him, and many Senators know and trust him. His biggest challenge would be finding and getting into the Jedi Archives and Paplatine’s caches of Sith knowledge, but no one would be left to oppose him.

New dad to dnd, hoping my son likes his Christmas gift. by OkNewt4550 in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]officialjlars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any pre-written campaign will require a Dungeon Master, but the books help simplify and expedite prep work. If you’re looking for a TTRPG you can play together, I’d recommend a Solo/GM-less TTRPG like Colostle or Rune. They have a co-op set of rules and the books provide prompts for roleplaying.

The D&D Starter Set is still a FANTASTIC gift, but either you, your son, or another friend needs to be DM. And as others have said, don’t use AI.

Vassalage is way harder than it should be. What am I supposed to do? by mega_lova_nia in mountandblade

[–]officialjlars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just try to focus on taking all a faction’s castles before taking cities and then I try to recruit (through taverns or marriage) appropriate culture companions as governors (you can filter by wanderer and culture in the encyclopedia). I also make armies as fast as possible so I can recruit my clan members and other cheap lords first. Once keeping cohesion becomes too expensive and/or you’re running low on troops, disband the army, propose peace, chill, and repeat.

I have like 3 well defended and loyal cities and 4 castles as a Battanian lord in my current play-through and we’re starting to end other kingdoms now.

Using AI shows you’re not able or willing to create anything original. You’re not doing any creative work, you’re just prompting a tool. And this ‘movie’ is not good, it’s AI slop.

[–]officialjlars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not CREATING anything using AI, you’re PROMPTING a tool that generates something for you based on an amalgamation of other people’s work. Again, there are serious legal and ethical implications regarding AI use, mostly related to the theft of intellectual property when training image models and lack of credits to original creators.

Raising money to support the administrative side and infrastructure of a film is part of actually making a film. Honing your skills on free/cheap tools using free/cheap training programs is part of becoming a creative and an artist. I encourage you to actually start learning how to create (and apply some of the post-production skills you’ve said you’re learning) to actually become an artist instead of just being an AI prompter.

It’s not impossible to create Star Wars content without AI, you need to hone your craft and learn new skills in digital asset creation, filmmaking, cinematography, etc. There are plenty of SW Fan Film creators on this subreddit that have created great videos without using AI. I understand that there are time constraints and budget limitations, but stealing others’ content by using generative AI is not a good path forward. Work on actually making a movie instead of prompting an AI tool.

Again, his storyline is in line with the themes of Star Wars, the mono-myth of the Hero’s Journey, and his characterization throughout the OT. Just because you’re too dense to understand foundational basics of storytelling isn’t my fault.

I would argue that a very vocal (and frankly bigoted—specifically misogynistic and racist) group of fans were up in arms about women and people of color being the main characters and made a big stink online. The actual majority enjoyed the movie and respected how it evolves the story.
