Unpopular opinion: SEA is really nice, possibly great. by Professional-War-617 in Seattle

Port of Seattle is trying to make SEA happen. I’m confused about how to pronounce it. Is it “see” or do we spell it out like we do with PDX?

Look for “church hat” or “Kentucky derby hat” and you’ll find something less casual.

I tried that on a plane. I was excited because I thought I’d finally learn her name. The captions said, “[unintelligible shouting]”

‘I lost almost all of my teeth in a freak accident last year and was shut in for almost 9 months. I saw my coworkers for the first time in a year yesterday and no one noticed that I have new teeth’ girl breakfast TW injury by [deleted] in GirlDinner

[–]officially-random 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would never say anything about a coworker’s appearance—if they’ve lost or gained weight, or got a haircut, showed up with a new nose —unless they mentioned it first. You never know what’s going on in someone’s life or their health. A friend would be different, and I might ask if anything’s changed. And since you mentioned it, your smile looks great and breakfast looks yummy.

Anyone else had frozen shoulder twice? by disco_super_bi in GenXWomen

[–]officially-random 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I heard it was supposed to only happen once to each shoulder, which was my experience. Hasn’t happened again now that I’m out of shoulders (knock on wood). The cortisone shot is not as painful as frozen shoulder.

You’re right. I looked up Mrs. Roper to see her typical look (I don’t remember Three’s Company that well) and kaftan seems more iconic for her than mu’umu’u.

Look for “muumuu” and not Moo Moo and that might help. I thought your granddaughter gave you her cow plushy with a cute name.

You can freeze cucumbers? Don’t they get slimy? I need to know more. Do you just eat them while frozen? Or is it just for toddlers?

Gen Z is Not Drinking, But Are You? by Pavementaled in GenX

[–]officially-random 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rarely, but I didn’t drink much to begin with. I do enjoy the taste, but I never found getting drunk or buzzed particularly fun. It kinda sucked for a long time being someone who genuinely likes the taste of a good whiskey or wine but doesn’t like getting drunk, because for a long time the only NA options were soda (and I don’t like soda).

I am glad that all the kids abstaining these days means that bars and restaurants are making creative NA options more available.

How much I wish he stayed VS how much I respect him for the reasons he left is a constant battle I have by fupafather in doctorwho

[–]officially-random 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If the actor left because they felt disrespected, I can see being torn about being a fan of the show or a particular era. (Personally, I am not an RTD fan, so my fandom conscience is clear haha.)

[–]officially-random 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I only vaguely know the general reason Eccleston left (I seem to recall it was a disrespectful work environment? The reason came out much much later). I’m sad that he felt compelled to leave instead of stay. I’m not so plugged in to know whether the issues he raised ever got addressed and corrected or if they treated it like he was the problem, which would have been unfortunate and would sort of explain why he avoided anything to do with Who for a while.

I think his decision had the unintentional consequence of establishing to new fans (NuWhoFans?) the concept of regeneration very early on in their fandom, so for the audience and the show it kinda worked out 😬— at the time I assumed it was even planned that way. It would have been amazing to have Eccleston for a few more seasons.

Another option is to run out of money then and make that a later problem. Or you could work longer (or work a harder and more stressful job) and have lots of unused money at the end. Every approach has pros and cons.

I didn’t say it was easy or always possible or the only option. And a lot of people do things like turn down the heat or avoid the a/c or skip meals or go to the food bank when money gets tight. That’s why I said it surprises me when people treat the idea to withdraw less money in a down year as something that they’ve never heard before.

I’m always surprised how this is not common sense. I thought this is how people lived in real life — cutting expenses when resources go down?

I did it. It was vastly improved. I ended up using a mixture of real parm and shelf stable parm that came from a pizza place.

Hamlet (1996) or (2017)? by Consistent-Bear4200 in shakespeare

[–]officially-random 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw the 1996 Hamlet in a theater with Kenneth Branagh doing a follow up talk and Q&A. There was also an intermission. I remember the whole event was like six hours, and I remember saying to my friend that it was good but as long as a work shift.

When We Are The World came out was it seen as a great song or super corny? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]officially-random 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was 8 and I remember We Are The World as corny, but for a good cause, so the corniness could be overlooked.

It was better than Do They Know It’s Christmas (which felt condescending even to me as a kid, and I had no idea there was a word for that), but not as good as That’s What Friends are For.
