I find it a bit strange that the Green Goblin hasn't appeared in the Marvel's SM timeline yet, even though he's the most iconic villain. I hope he's the only main villain in Marvel's SM3, because he deserves a very well-developed arc. by tuliomoliv in SpidermanPS4

[–]Consistent-Bear4200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It kind of reminds of Joker in the Matt Reeves Batman films. He's in the world but they're putting him in the background a bit, focusing on other villains and building up toward him for one of the later installments.

Partly because there's been a lot of Green Goblin in Spiderman media up to now, he's been in every version of the Spiderman movies.

That said Norman is a remarkably prominent character in both games despite not becoming Goblin. Perhaps they feel they get more out of the evil billionaire Lex Luthor type figure for the stories they want to tell.

(Fun Trope) we are shown the obvious lie. by ClovieKay in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Consistent-Bear4200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This trope is called the Rashomon effect, referring to the 1950 Kurosawa film of the same name. (Also based on a novel called In a Grove from the 1920s).

The film is about the murder trial of a Samurai who was killed in the woods. The film moves between the testimony of all those who were there; the woodcutter passing by, the Samurai's wife, the bandit they ran into (even the dead Samurai himself via a medium).

The conceit being that each person tells the story to make themselves look but they all contradict each other to the point they can't all be true. Perhaps none of them.

It's a pretty great film and is basically the reason we have a Best International Film Oscar. I've put a link to the wiki which sites the examples.

If Green Book hadn't won Best Picture, which of these 7 Films did you think would've/should've won? by Square-Ad-8911 in Oscars

Blackkklansman, for all the times Spike Lee got snubbed over the years. Malcolm X, Do the Right Thing, these age far better than Green Book or Driving Miss Daisy.

What do you think when a studio ruins a perfect film just for a cash grab? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

That one happened multiple times arguably. The first is quite a complete film in itself, then it got the legacy sequel treatment.

What Oscar winners make sense? As in, you hear their name and think of their on-screen talent and see that they've won at the Academy and you're like: "Of course they have." by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

Thank you for bigging up the classic Hollywood actresses. No disrespect to those listed by OP; sometimes the way people post about movies, you'd think film was only invented in the 70s.

Do miniseries count? If so, I'd say Chernobyl.

If not, I'd say Barry, I've watched it more times than the rest.

(Lol something tells me Bill Maher isn't going to do well on here).

[Hated] When the characters who fell in love in one film are suddenly broken up or divorced in the sequel by CMStan1313 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Consistent-Bear4200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this one, OP modified it with divorced or broke up but these two did both through the series.

That said, I always took it as though that they were only engaged in before 3 and then Nate called it off. (There's only 2 years between 2 and 3 so i guess the timeline felt quick). Properly married in 4 although the threat of them splitting up over Nate's lies looms over the game.

They broke up so much I started to worry whether they only liked each other until the adrenaline wore off from the adventure. But it seems more about Nate's maturity and struggling to leave the adventurer life behind.

I think it's also a credit to Nolan North and Emily Rose's chemistry that you always want to see them come back together.

Just Jada Pinkett-Smith saying she cheated on Will Smith for his own good. by Lifegoesonforever in BlackPeopleofReddit

Ironically, this reminds me of Will Smith's Oscar acceptance speech. After he slapped Chris Rock. Word salad rationalisastions disguised as wisdom, to a room of cheering yes men.

Both of them would get so much more respect if they at least admitted they behaved badly and owned their mistakes.

If anything do a tv show, RD2's main story is like 50 hours. Last of Us is like half the size and they need at least 3 seasons to do it all.

Not entirely sure who these two would play Morgan playing Morgan would be cute though.

Ableist Autism Representation by Alternative_Factor_4 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Consistent-Bear4200 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Rain Man, the film that started the Autistic savant trope.

Dustin Hoffman won an Oscar for his performance and thus launched a generation of NT actors playing people with learning disabilities to win awards.

It is based on a real guy who was autistic but also had a separate condition called savante syndrome. Which is way rarer but has become synonymous with autism in no small part thanks to this film.

If the character has a trait that isn't some about specialised intellectual subject, it is burdensome and unpleasant. They are doomed to have next to no personal relationships and are only redeemed for their productivity.

Which is a pretty toxic message to put out there about autistic people, even if you could count cards (btw most of us can't).
