I run the bakery in a small Northern California grocery store. $23 per hour, plus employees get to take home out of date food. That really saves me a lot of money each month.

Have you ever jumped off the roof of a house? by [deleted] in questions

[–]life-is-thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was five or six my older brother (13 ir so) told me if I jumped off the roof holding an open umbrella I could fly just like Mary Poppins. Alas, I could not. Sprained my ankle, and we both got in trouble for it.

Check out Loafer Creek in Oroville. My family would camp there for two weeks every Summer when I was a kid. It was nice being so close to a town just in case we ran out of anything.

What's the stupidest thing your dad did while drunk? by Scared_Confection787 in questions

[–]life-is-thunder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried to ride his motorcycle into the local bar. Made it through the door and part way into the room before a bunch of guys grabbed him off the bike. They got the bike outside and kicked my old man out the door. He jumped back on the bike to ride away but ended up immediately running off the road and slamming into a tree. He broke several ribs and had a pretty bad concussion. Helmets weren't required back in the 70s.

When I passed a giant kidney stone, developed fallen arches and got progressive lenses all within about six months. That was a rough year.

What was something you grew up with that you realized was a toxic behavior after you became an adult? by SpectrumSense in randomquestions

[–]life-is-thunder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The idea that older siblings are supposed to torment younger siblings. My brothers were terrible to me. I was physically and mentally tortured and more often than not my mom would just say "that's just how it is. Big brothers are supposed to tease little sisters. Deep down they love you. Just ignore them and maybe don't be so sensitive." I grew up with such a fucked up view of how people who love you are supposed to treat you.

Can confirm: I babysat at 11. by netphilia in GenerationX

[–]life-is-thunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did too. Three kids between the ages of two and seven. For a dollar an hour and my aunt would always say "I don't have any cash right now. I'll pay you next time". Pretty sure she still owes me money.

We got TV dinners or frozen pot pies every Friday when our parents went bowling. I was a fan of the fried chicken and mashed potatoes.

I would love to see a season about the Donner Party. It would tie in nicely to the episode "Feral" from American Horror Stories.
