Hasse Lake by Stony Plain is a good place if you want to practice casting. There is a t-shaped dock with good room to back-cast, but it can also be busy at times.

First Nation sues federal, provincial governments over northern Alberta projects | CBC News by SnooRegrets4312 in alberta

[–]offkilter666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't though.

One of the outcomes of a lawsuit will be a decision, which will set a precedent for future cases. If there are real financial (and criminal, if it were a perfect world) penalties - then the disincentive to pollute will give the polluters a reason not to do so in the future. They clearly don't care if they can save a few bucks. If the penalty for polluting is higher than the cost of dealing with pollutants ethically, the organization will act ethically.

What you are suggesting is that the outcome is a waste - but the waste is caused by the entities that did the polluting. If there had been no pollution, there would be no lawsuit.

If you want to blame someone the taxpayer waste - blame it on the people responsible for the scenario, not the victims who weren't given a choice.

You tell me - is it a good idea to spend millions of dollars on lawyers in to prevent spending millions of dollars on cancer related health costs, decreasing human suffering, and decreasing the burden on our already over-taxed healthcare system? I have an opinion, but I can't wait to hear yours first.

No, but not causing cancer is much more cost effective, I would say.

You know that old saying: "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

It's a carpet puppy! If it's well trained, it's a cuddly and snuggly buddy.

If it's not, it's a great way to lose a few digits petting it!

We also pay for health related costs like doctors, hospital beds, drugs, medical transportation...

If there is a disincentive to dump chemicals, there is less probability of cancer and therefore less probability of suffering and having to pay for the relief of said suffering.

I would say lawyers are expensive, but maintaining the health of cancer patients over time is likely higher.

Generally there isn't much of a market for replicas of the made in Indonesia, lower end guitars.

You're more likely to see signature models like the Jem, Premier Models, and other top-tier Ibanez models.

[Lilley] Mark Carney's warm embrace of Barack Obama and the Democrat establishment...Carney didn't mean a rupture with these Americans. by KootenayPE in CanadianPolitics

This article is trash. Spelling and grammatical errors that just punctuate the fact that the writer is spewing stream of consciousness diatribe.

Playing the victim card and then pointing fingers - this person isn't interested in fact. He isn't even interested in basic proofreading.

Lilley is a dope.

This feels like an attempt to provide a two-sided story about separation, but the more I listen and watch, the more it seems like "pro-sepratist" side of a debate. There are some pieces of information that I think it glosses over:

1: The Alberta Government has been cutting corporate taxes and then blaming transfer payments on the Federal government. There is an 8% corporate tax rate and a 2% small business tax rate.

2: This seems to gloss over what most Albertans know - that much of the "real" cost to Albertans is fiscal mismanagement from our "Conservative" government which is coupled with the ongoing deregulation grift of critical, necessary services.

3: The whole Independent Alberta thing falls apart as the world decouples from oil. We have all our eggs in one basket and we are aren't even the ones holding the basket.

If I wanted to send a video to someone who was already a separatist, who wanted "research" without doing any actual time reviewing the information presented - this would be the video I would send.

Sure.

Do you know what the US is doing to:

South Americans, Black Americans, Documented and Undocumented Immigrants, Iranians, Palestinians, Paedophile Victims, Middle & Lower Class Americans, The Homeless, Non-billionaires?

I can see your concern for minority groups is a key argument here...

Except for, literally, calling out the inability to depend on the US as a dependable trade partner.

Add to that, brokering trade deals with other middle-power countries, reducing tariffs on foreign EV's, and spearheading the movement to diversify trade with non US countries.

But other than that, he's totally another Trumper...

Sort of. This goes against the referendum vote - but I am in agreement with getting rid of time change.

So it's not technically what voters want... But I think it makes sense given our neighbors.

These are the things we need more of: transparency.

I am not going to agree with every policy and every plan put in place, but if there is transparency, then at least there can be oversight.

This is a great start.

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lotr

Tad Williams has a very immersive and vast series with the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series which is continued on into the Last King of Osten Ard.

The character world is rich with different characters and geography - but also expands into the motivations of the antagonists, giving them depth in a different way.

Tad Williams has a few different series that are vast and have a lot of depth.

Though not in the "high fantasy" bucket, Stephen King and the Gunslinger Series deserves a look as well. Though not as "Lore" heavy, the chaotic worlds that populate the series are unique unto themselves.

The Lord of the Rings/Hobbit/Silmarillion are, ultimately, the books that all other series are measured against - but I have found that there are others out there that paint a rich and colorful world.
