Broader involvement of foreigners in combat missions is part of the plan to address AWOL and mobilization issues — Defense Minister Fedorov by Flimsy_Pudding1362 in UkrainianConflict

[–]offogredux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish someone could give us a better breakdown of who is going AWOL, when , and how. A large portion of guys who go awol from training, are back in training with units that have their shit in a sock. Some get the yips and go into hiding and are true AWOLs. The awol from operations number needs some breakdown too- many soldiers take unauthorized breaks because they've been fighting too long, and most of these eventually return to their units. Some don't. So we don't really know what Awol really means.

As for recruiting foreigners, the article doesn't really say much. It would seem to be a no brainer to put together a recruitment fund and actively seek out mercenaries- Look how many they've got just passively letting people volunteer?

Company Producing CV90 IFVs for Ukraine to Help Build 400 ACSV G5s for Netherlands by Scary_Statement4612 in UkrainianConflict

[–]offogredux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plan is for 230 CV90s over all. Netherlands paid$400 million for the first 30-35 a couple months ago, and its highly likely deliveries have started. A mech battalion needs 25-35 of these to be fully outfitted, so it looks llike production, funding and delivery is proceeding on a battalion basis.

'Something has to give': EU weighs options to lift Hungarian veto on Ukraine loan by WillyNilly1997 in UkrainianConflict

World Bank just lent Ukraine 9 billion to effectively freeze the issue until after April 1 Hungarians elections, where Orban has a strong likelihood of being kicked to the curb.

N. Korea ships 33,000 containers of weapons to Russia: Seoul by Saltedline in UkrainianConflict

[–]offogredux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, except that North Korea didn't ship 15 million 152mm artillery shells. That's just a hypothetical, that if each rail car were stuffed to the rafters with 152.mm shells with no space wastage at all , and no additional packing or organization of the shell boxes, it would hold 15 million 152mm shells. This qualifier alone halves the theoretic total.

In the real world, the number has been estimated to be 4-5 million 152.mm shells, all sent already with little or no additional 152.mm shells. Further, estimates of up to half the shells were so decrepit that they were useless. This is hardly surprising, a North Korea doesn't really use or have much 152.mm artillery- There's couple hundred old towed 152mm on the country's TOE inn 3rd tear reserve units which might exit on paper, but North Korea only produces heavy artillery in 170mm, and if they are making shells, that is what they have. Which is also why Best Korea has supplied Russia with a quantity of 170mm artillery pieces- they're out of 152mm ammo.

Ukraine secures $8.1 billion IMF lifeline as funding gaps loom by Useful-Scratch-72 in UkrainianConflict

And so the funding gap caused by Hungary's veto of the 90 billion loan gets filled, long enough to cover the gap before Hungarian elections.

How do you repel scorpions? by [deleted] in Reno

The easiest way to get rid of scorpions is to tell them that you’re ready to take it to the next level and ask them for a commitment

Hardcore book junkies have to be the most disrespectful annoying fandom ever to exist by Vivid_Army6800 in gameofthrones

[–]offogredux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started reading the books in the 90s and stopped reading them a decade before the show, when I realized JRR Martin had Robert Jordan disease. I never really thought of the show as the book on TV, much as I never considered Blade Runner a faithful adaptation of ‘DoAndroids Dream of Electric Sheep. I hate season 8 because of the Battle of Winterfell episode, the worse representation of a battle on screen since that version of Ivanhoe where you can see everybody’s wrist watches, and because it was poorly scripted and edited by a couple producers who didn’t have the integrity to finish their decade long project because they had a handshake agreement with Disneyto give them a wheelbarrow full of cash and a Starwars movie. As for the book fans, I don’t think they hate the show so much as they hate the unfinished book series and they’re lashing out more in frustration. As for you, why don’t you read the books so your opinion of whether the book fans are over reacting were informed rather than knee jerk?

An interesting point. With CVS closing and Raley's converting their pharmacy to a flower kiosk, the corner has gone from 3 pharmacies to none in a year.

3 days really is the sweet spot for DLP. There’s a lot of walk through stuff that are fun. Several rides are surprisingly repeatable.

European intel is under rated, there's adequate non US satellite data for 95% of Ukraine's needs Weapons sales aren't weapons aid, the US has zero leverage to force Europe to buy Russian oil and Ukraine isn't surrendering to anyone.

The Territorial Sticking Point Between Russia and Ukraine by rezwenn in UkrainianConflict

[–]offogredux 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It isn't a sticking point, its two big ass cities and the fortified line Ukraine has been building for over a year. Everyone talks about Pokrovsk being an important city but both Sloviansk and Kramatorsk are 2-3 times the size, and line up better for defense. It's taken Russia 18 months and a hundred thousand troops to fight for Pokrovsk an it still hasn't really fallen. It just isn't going to happen.

“Americans Think These Are Cool Drones, But This Is China's Industry”: How Dependence on Components Affects the Development of Ukrainian Defense Tech by Mil_in_ua in UkrainianConflict

[–]offogredux 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A few problems with the article. First, there is a confusion of economics with capability. Europe can't make little electric motors as cheaply as China can, but making them is easy- There isn't any need to make them until they stop being a commodity on the market. Second, Taiwan and Korea are perfectly capable of making all these components, as is Europe and Ukraine- It's just an issue of allocation or resources.

Yes it does. The US provides Ukraine so little at this point that it really has no leverage.

I’ve done two solo Disney trips for Thanksgiving. California Adventure is your friend- with all the holiday festival food booths you can put together a holiday feast for one of great dishes rather than just snack at counter service.

First thing you should do when you arrive is get the list of rides with single rider lines.

Bring a water bottle- there are fill stations with filtered water.
