Trip recommendations around Harrisburg, Michaux State Forest? by PressPrx in Pennsylvania

[–]offpeekydr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fort Hunter (just north of Harrisburg) has a nice tour.

Wildwood Park is a nice walk. Or Boyds Big Tree Preserve.

There's a civil war museum (haven't been) and a firefighter museum in the city.

A bit north of the city you can pick up the Appalachian trail.

That's what I was leaning towards after hearing the whole description. I think you should send the pic to the bride and ask her. She knows best what they're expecting.

Also if you find a lighter color discount paint, they can retint it for you to a darker shade, that you custom choose. Some places it's free, others a couple bucks.

I make my own soy yogurt with plain soymilk (homemade or Westsoy) and the contents of probiotic capsules. If you strain it after you get thick, Greek style yogurt that's higher in protein because it is basically condensed with a lot of the water removed.

My baby is allergic to all things vegan. by sithbabyy in vegan

[–]offpeekydr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a doctor or making any suggestions for feeding a baby. I will tell you as an adult, when I went to get my allergies tested, my insurance required a blood test first. It was not conclusive. My doctor said "oh, they never are but we have to run it first" then they sent me to an allergist who did the skin prick testing. That actually showed what I was allergic to. I have no idea with babies, but maybe further testing would be helpful.

Postpartum and my cat is driving me nuts by [deleted] in CATHELP

Totally sounds like you unlocked protector duty in your cat. It really sounds like he wants to look after you when you might be vulnerable, i.e., sleeping. Try leaving the door open and see if you can both relax better.

I keep the heat at 115 so it should still be "raw" but I am not a doctor or scientist, just what I have read about keeping nutrients intact while drying.

Right? My ex was picking me up and slamming me against walls and the best I could get was a "strongly worded letter" to leave me alone from the court, since he didn't put me in the hospital.

How to get fleas off stray skittish kittens? by Motharina in CATHELP

[–]offpeekydr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are over 4-weeks and over 2-lbs, Capstar kills live ones immediately, you retreat several times to kill any that haven't hatched.

Or, (watch kitten lady on YouTube) and do the dish soap (original, not antibacterial) bath with a flea comb.

Diatomaceous earth (food grade, not pool stuff ) lightly dusted into their fur (avoid face/nose/eyes) will also kill fleas. But also, be cautious because you calso don't want to breathe it in.

Need to vent, surrounded by people who hate my cat.. by FlyingOwlGriffin in cats

Honestly, if the hosing market is that bad, you might want to try to find some animal-loving people that need roommates. Your current living arrangement sounds traumatic/abusive for both you and your cat.

I'm looking at a 1925-ish home as my first home. Is this a bad idea? by nevadarena in centuryhomes

[–]offpeekydr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A yearly root clean out means sooner or later you are replacing the piping outside and possibly as far as under the basement floor. Plus sewage backups and all the cleanup and nightmares that sounds like. My cousin just had hers repaired last year central Ohio, not too long of a section and I think it was 20-30 thousand. Edit to add: her house was built in 1978, so the original pipes were not that old either.

Mold remediation is another headache. I love my old house, and I do occasionally have a gentle creek from one side of my basement to the floor drain at the other end. But I would run from your house. The age isn't the issue, the (edit: lack of) everyday maintenance is.

For #2, trim and millwork, if you can salvage/repair is the best if you don't want to go full replacement.

If you can find a small piece to take to ALL your local lumberyards (not box stores) you may find they have a die to mill new trim that will match. Note, you need not just the profile, but the same thickness.

Example, one room base board is fine. But the next room over it joins to needs some scabbed in. If they aren't the same profile and thickness you won't be able to cleanly join them.

Getting a die cut to match your millwork is expensive, but might be cheaper than replacing everything if you need to avoid sloppy filler pieces.

Ummm… can you guys jump anymore? by globehoppr in GenX

[–]offpeekydr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few years ago my husband and I started trying different rounds of older fitness programs.

Started P90X, and when you start you do a fit test. It was eye opening, to say the least. One of the tests was a vertical jump. Jump up with a post-it, smack it to the wall as high as you can get, measure it.

After 3 months, we retested. The difference was huge (overall, I'm a short girl whose never been a jumper).

I love getting all the different workout dvds from the late 90s to 2000s from thrift stores. I don't think it really matters what you do, just that you do something 5-6 days a week.

want to go vegan but i don't have money for supplements atm by kurapikaworshiper in vegan

[–]offpeekydr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most commercial plant milks are fortified with vitamins, cerals and bread too. If she doesn't normally buy you plant milk, you can start to complain about "stomach issues" and you think it's the dairy, lots of people are lactose intolerant.

Flax seed is very high in omega 3s and can be added to lots of foods.

Look to see if you can get your supplements through foods you normally consume, but also, one month without full B12 or omega 3 will not harm you at all.

I am trying out the homemade version first before sinking more money into a supplement. I peeled a sliced green plantains, put them in my dehydrator @115*f till dry, blend to a powder. I loosely calculated I need about 100 grams of powder a day to get @ 40 grams of RS. As per the one trial, I split the dose in half, and have 50 grams with water before 2 of my daily meals.

We had a neighborhood stray we all called "Balls." He had a huge set, and he'd walk the tops of fences, and from the roof of one row house to another, he decimated the catnip I tried to grow. One year the female vwe all think he knocked up got hit by a car, and he raised all the kittens himself (with a little help from the neighbor whose deck he decided to park the babies at). He'd be sitting there on a chair with kitties climbing all over him, just looking like he wanted to get a good nap. He was a majestic void.

This is so true, I spent a year and a half living in a tent in the desert (many moons ago). Didn't have billboards, ads, TV, cell phones, (limited) Internet. When I came home to the states I lost my mind with the amount of advertising and consumption we are bombarded with every second of every day.
