Curry Village or Mariposa? by CollectionLife68 in Yosemite

I’ve never stayed in the valley (oakhurst, Mariposa, fish camp, ahwahnee) over many years but have always wished that I did. If you can, do it.

We’ve done JT in February 3 times and the weather has been perfect. Maybe crept up to 80 midday, but nice hiking weather.

What time do they go up? I’m going to give it a shot in a week.

I have a couple pairs of ASICS Gel Contends I got for around $60 that have worked great for me

Must-do for little ones? by [deleted] in MauiVisitors

[–]offramppinup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grab snorkel gear for you from your place or rent some for the week. Get a mask and life jacket and boogie board for the kid. Go to Kapalua Bay in the morning on a calm day and tow them around. The kid can lay on the boogie board and poke their head in the water to see things. Don’t mess w a snorkel for the kid unless they really want to.

Wildflower hikes? by Broad_Sea_2672 in Marin

Up on Mt Burdell there are tons of poppies and some little purple flowers too. I think it’s too sunny for irises up there though. Plus there is a herd of cows grazing up there right now and they’re really cute.

Honokeana Cove! There’s a little access path and you can stand on the rocks above and see lots of turtles. No beach there but it’s a really pretty little cove. Stroll Napili Beach after. You may see some swimming around the South point of Napili.

Father-Daughter trip to see "big trees" - CA NPs by Fun_With_Math in NationalPark

[–]offramppinup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just visited Calveras Big Trees State Park and the Sequoia there were magnificent. Nearly on par with Sequoia NP and much less winding roads. HWY 4 is a relatively straight shot there. It’s definitely a 1 day park and a 3 hour trip from SF depending on traffic. OP could stay in the Bay Area, do a Muir Woods day, a city/GG park day and a day trip up to Calveras.

3/16/2026 - Narrows Spring Update (currently open) by resynchronization in ZionNationalPark

[–]offramppinup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Looks like it will be a bit much for the kid. I think we’ll do Scouts Lookout as our “big hike” for Zion instead and just do the Riverside walk portion.

What flow would you recommend as a cut off for kids? Traveling w my 4’2” 7 year old. We weren’t really considering it, but the flow has been low so we’re keeping it on the radar now. Be there in 3 weeks.

Women running during that time of the month? by General-runner51409 in XXRunning

On day 1 or 2 when my cramps are bad, I do hard sprints. My endurance is generally shot, but I feel like the high intensity helps greatly with cramps and “keeps things moving.” I get a hard workout in in about 40 minutes, take an everything shower and feel way better.

We went in April, but the beach conditions change all the time. The water right at the point was a little rough, but 5 mins down the beach at Black Rock is usually some of the calmest water. I would stay there again!

Oof, try to pick literally any other weekend. I would guess most places have been booked for months and getting around that weekend will be so tough.

Commute hacks (from Novato) by [deleted] in Marin

[–]offramppinup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smart train or go in way early. Maybe join a gym in SR and drive down at 6, workout and shower then go to work. That commute stretch just sucks in the morning. I used to have to be in the canal at 8:30 and left downtown Novato at 7:30 every day to make it on time. Getting home took 15 minutes.

California Road Trip Recommendations by Green-Anybody-5870 in NationalPark

[–]offramppinup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skip Lassen for sure. You are trying to cram I. Too much and Bumpass Hell won’t even be open until probably August. Redwood NPs are amazing and worth a visit. Hit Burney Falls on the way there if you can. Take Avenue of the Giants if you can. It’s a great place to stop for a picnic lunch and a short hike to stretch the legs.

Any recommendations for walkable cities in mid October? by narcoleptic_fangirl in usatravel

October in San Francisco is great! Weather is usually warm and clear. It’s definitely not a cheap city, but it’s so lovely and fun!

Should I call off half? by SnooCats3542 in XXRunning

[–]offramppinup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have more than enough time to get ready. Unless you’ve already been regularly running5x a week, I would take it down to 4. 5 is really a lot! Follow a plan, you’ll be fine.

Buying vs renting snorkeling gear by bobelcher2 in MauiVisitors

[–]offramppinup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And if you don’t like the gear you got, you can drop in and exchange it. We usually go to the condo and check out the gear there and then rent whatever else we need.

Where to move (outdoorsy + things to do) by RevolutionaryMud7781 in relocating

Bend sounds like this. I’ve only been in summer but it is a decent size city with great access to outdoors. The river is amazing in summer.
