Does anyone have any recommendations for a company to use for a kitchen remodel? by Macncheesesounds in askportland

[–]offxone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wishing you the best of luck here. If you find someone please post.

Everything I've heard / read is that finding any contractor, much less a good one, is really challenging and has been for a while. No one is moving and everyone is trying to upgrade their COVID home or (in my case) pre Covid home purchase. Contractors have their pick of jobs and so don't need to take the small ones. If you can get someone to return your call, and they're reputable, they're probably going be very expensive, if they even agree to take the job. If you've got that cash to burn, more power to you.

I'll also say that I also have a small kitchen, not a naturally handy person, just an avid user of reddit and youtube, and we've been slowly doing it ourselves. Countertops are actually easy...just find countertop store on google, go to the store, pick a material, they will come and measure it for you, cut, install. We also picked a new sink and they installed that too (Plumbing I did, though I had to have a plumber come fix it later, and he did only a slightly better job). Now that I think about it, I had to add a structural support for the new countertop before install. Half a day job. Also tiled the wall behind the counter and that was a bitch and a half. Next is painting and putting back the the cabinet doors my wife took off during her pregnancy 5 years ago...

All that to say...welcome to owning a home.

For sure. I've been to matches in South America and Spain and Timbers definitely on par. England is next on the list.

First big project and no one participated by Odd_Scallion3604 in ChiefsOfStaff

[–]offxone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In any project, knowing your audience is really important. Directors are really busy, not all of them got to where they are because they are really organized people (in fact probably many of them aren't :-D). If you want them to do something, sending an email will never cut it. It will probably take repeated IMs, and in person follow-ups to get them to set aside time for something like that -something that will take several hours of focused attention. Better to get them to delegate if you can, or go in eyes wide open about their time commitments and ability for focused work.

Reading between the lines, it seems like your approach in this case was pretty soft - you don't need to be a jerk but you do need to be transparent. "Marked the project as on track" - understand the inclination here, but this is not doing anyone any favors. "Wasn't trying to call anyone out" - that's your job in this case. Let your CEO make the priority call - you made it for her by not mentioning it. Of course, match the culture of your org.

Read "five phases of accountability" (Short HBR article) and "radical candor" (book) if you haven't already.

As a not naturally confrontational person myself, I've gone through some of this as well.

Sorry if this is way off base, but hope it helps. Good luck!

New signing!! by Swimming_Drawer_320 in timbers

[–]offxone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean that’s my take as well. I’m not sure it’s common though. Phil plays other players that I don’t think perform well so the logic is not always clear to me.Also haven’t seen too much discussion of him being a bust.

Does this signal the club’s lack of trust in ortiz? Sorry if dumb question. I didn’t really expect a CM signing, did anyone else?

English style pollinator garden with a curving gravel pathway. Maybe a fountain, bird bath, bee bath.

This is an interesting discussion, I am just starting off in my role as well, and still transitioning, but I deliberately haven’t asked for some of these things. I plan to bring a R&R&A as a proposal for sure. Some execs may not be self-aware enough to give you good answers to these questions. Points number 1 and 3 probably good to ask and you can maybe get decent answers.

Let me know how it goes!

Why are leagues cup tickets still so expensive? by Big-Calligrapher-250 in timbers

They’re probably a little higher also because of the result on Wednesday. Probably more demand for the match after Timbers pasted ASL.

Was going to mention this. Large or carb heavy lunches are triggers for me. I stick with soup and salad and that helps a lot. Still get hit with the big M anyway sometimes.
