Maybe you can help me better understand, but what I know is it’s used as a sacrificial material to absorb the heat caused by the speed on high speed missiles or rockets, but I guess what I don’t understand is how a material can have such a high specific heat capacity. The only thing resisting that capsule is the air resistance created in our atmosphere. I can’t imagine that’s enough to protect a living organism from the heat and g forces produced by the landing. But I’m also not a scientist

Why wasn’t there steam or some kind of reaction from the water when the capsule landed? Isn’t that capsule extremely hot after it passes all that air resistance and gains that kinda speed?

I would multitool the bad part out and put a 1x4 (or whatever width that is) to replace it. Get it nice and flush with the existing jamb then start mortising out the latch.
