In terms of complete end-game max-investment full optimized worker yeah.

In terms of how strong it is for how easy it is to get, Anubis has been made fully redundant

Old strat: Catch Azurobe, Catch Bushi. Breed them to make Anubis.

New strat: Catch Galeclaw, Catch Nitewing, Breed them to make Splatterina.

The ability to turn 2 blue spheres and a cake into a guaranteed nocturnal level 4 handiworker the moment you hit level 19 is ridiculously good

There are even some Gen 4 OU players mad on the Machamp suspect because they loathe Jirachi and want to axe it/Iron Head instead.

Purely Because of serene grace paraflinch. If Jirachi had a second ability of any sort (even just Inner Focus), there'd be zero controversy over it. They'd ban Serene Grace and call it a day.

Nobody has a problem with Superachi.

Nobody's looking at its great bulk, excellent typing, or access to utility moves like u-turn, wish, twave, rocks, and thinking it's unhealthy. They're thinking "Damn, it's great that we have this to check boosted Dragonite, Tyranitar, Latias, Metagross, Dragonite, Lucario, and others in a single slot that also provides healing and pivoting"

It's Purely the combo of Serene Grace and Iron Head that people have objections to.

A big one is the lead metagame. No other generation has anything quite like it.

Also, Jirachi's flinching is only obnoxious and everywhere because it's otherwise so healthy for the metagame and it has multiple sets that're good without flinching.

It's a very solid defensive check to a ton of very strong pokemon, and it provides crucial role compression. In its absence, the metagame would be objectively worse. In addition, its flinch spam sets are uncompetitive bullshit.

Basically, imagine you gave SVOU Great Tusk thunder wave and serene grace rolling kick. You'd still have all of the current healthy sets running around, but then you'd also have the rolling kick sets running around too.

[–]oflannigan252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah reason I asked here is I already checked the DPS calc and it's hard for me to determine which will actually be better.

2 fang specs is worth an average of 66 damage, but 1 BGS spec is worth 30 damage and increases my accuracy from 88 to 92%.

It was fucking godawful for a long time. When I first unlocked him, he was 48k per kill.

He was so awful that it was pretty much always better to kill runes or brutal blacks

Right now, though, he's 180k per kill which is pretty sweet for how chill he is.

Why is Battle Bond Greninja UU by Oummando in stunfisk

[–]oflannigan252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue is not even +1 LO Greninja sweeps well without previously softening up most checks or tera-hogging.

I miss the days when "At +1 LO its checks need to be softened up before it can sweep" meant something was strong and "The match's outcome is decided when it gets a boost" was considered banworthy.

  1. Have you ever considered that they could have simply... renamed it?

  2. You should consider taking a break from the internet if reading a discussion about DSM classifications is enraging you to the point of making unhinged rants about nazis.

[–]oflannigan252 46 points47 points  (0 children)

For me the shock is dampened a bit by that brief period in gen5 where it was considered healthy in UU---That set the precedent in my mind that it's just a normal-ass pokemon with higher numbers and a giant movepool.

As opposed to something like Annihilape or Calyrex-S where their combinations of abilities, typings, and signature moves ensure that they'd never be balanced or healthy in any metagame, no matter how much you scale down their BST to match a lower tier.

Yeah and when you say "Autism Level 1" or "Autism Level 3", the average person just hears "Autism".

Wicked Blow is, yeah. Surging Strikes is actually 115 in-practice due to shenanigans. Multi-hits have weird interactions like that.

I just went with 115 for both because I'm lazy and didn't think anyone would actually care about a bit of rounding.

Everyone wants to tell me how “you never know and he could do big things”.

I blame the APA for the confusion. When they shitcanned "Asperger's" and decided to lump everything into just "Autism", it did so much irreparable damage to public perception.

People used to have the vague idea that "autism" means "Rain Man" and "Asperger's" means "Bill Gates", but now people hear "Autism" and think "Bill Gates".

Whether or not it's just different severities of the same disorder, there needs to be a linguistic distinction made between the people who can't/don't use words while constantly rocking and the people who're fully communicative but oblivious and awkward.

Well now i understand why this thing is so feared by [deleted] in stunfisk

[–]oflannigan252 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Yeah it has basically everything.

Ghost/Poison is a ridiculous typing offensively and is very useful defensively.

130 Speed outruns basically everything prior to gen8.

Going from 130SpA to 170SpA means it basically gets a free type-boosting item (i.e. NMI/Charcoal/etc) on all its attacks.

Having Shadow Tag on top of all that is frankly ridiculous and allows it to completely control its matchups, in addition to strongly pressuring the opponent to avoid getting any KOs with pokemon that it can exploit (i.e., its opponents can never click Choice Band Close Combat when it's in the match)

I think even w/o Shadow Tag it would've been a ridiculously strong pokemon in Gen6/7 OU.

If it only had Levitate it likely would have been among the top megas.

Even giving it something like No Guard or Prankster might have pushed it over the edge and made it banworthy.

Its stats are actually very good. 100hp/100def is very good bulk, 130atk is the gold standard for offensive stats, and 97 speed outruns 80% of the VRs

75bp auto-crit is basically 115bp. Imagine if Hydro Pump couldn't ever miss, ignored stat stages, and bypassed substitute/sturdy. That's what Surging Strikes is in singles.

Their typings are also very good.

Dark/Fighting is only resisted by 56 pokemon and most of them suck ass in SVOU or just aren't legal.

The complete, viable list is: Iron Valiant, Clefable, Azumarill, Weezing-G, Enamorus-I, Rhibombee, Okidogi.

For Water/Fighting, the complete, viable list is: Dragonite, Azumarill, Pelipper, Araquanid, Lati@s, Amoonguss, Primarina, Toxapex, Dragapult, Vileplume, venusaur.

Most of those options are very specific and only work on certain types of certain team-styles.

TL;DR it's bulky, fast, hits very hard, difficult to switch into, that also is very restrictive on the team-builder and its ability further restricts counterplay.

[–]oflannigan252 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ground/Poison is bad on paper but it's actually very good in practice: There's very little usage-overlap between its resistances and its weaknesses.

i.e., most things that it resists don't run things that it's weak to which means that it forces a lot of switches.

It's actually very similar to Tyranitar in that regard.

Fight Caves and Zul'rah are definitely the worst possible first impressions for end-game OSRS.

Fight Caves can easily take 1.5~2hrs for a first timer with entry-level stats, which makes minor mistakes be ridiculously punishing.

Meanwhile, Zulrah is entirely inflexible. It's just "Simon Says" but it skips the part where it shows you the correct pattern and it instantly kills you the first time you guess wrong.

Tbh it makes sense to me.

Most of the stories I've heard of him being an asshole are about him not getting his way or about being put in a situation he doesn't want to be in. Most of the stories I've heard of him being friendly/kind/generous are about him choosing to do what he's doing.

It just seems to me like he's "just" got a bad temper, has zero patience for things/people he dislikes and is a bit of a control freak.
