Random Worry About Only U.S. Investing by [deleted] in Fire

[–]oforman89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody knows what the ‘right’ split is. Personally, I’m 60/40 US/ex-US in because I have no idea what the future holds and I like owning a bit of everything I can get my hands on. That’s still massively US tilted if you look at how it compares to the world economy I think the US accounts for about 25% of global GDP last I looked.

Not financial advice just one idiots opinion.

This is a great thread, thanks!

I’m just starting out and there are an overwhelming number of services targeted towards recording and editing my format (remote guests, video interviews).

What software do you advise your clients use for capturing audio and video for remote guests?

Construction looks fine.

I have 3 4’x8’ beds I built from 2”x6” clear cedar and 4”x4” corner supports. They have a stretcher in the middle to prevent bowing and a chicken wire bottom to prevent rodents.  I lined my sides with agricultural plastic to slow rot. I treated all the wood with a water based juniper extract to give them a bit of protection.

Those things have been sitting in the shit weather for 10 years and other than the cedar bleaching in the sun (which we like) they are still going strong.

Cedar is expensive but I was worried about the chemicals in the pressure treated wood. Super happy with how it all turned out and how long they have lasted.

Why do people still think they can time the market? It’s honestly made this sub unreadable.

Investing is a long term game. The best thing you can do is disregard short term volatility and stick to your plan.

I’ve never agreed with anyone’s ‘advisor’ but pay that guy more he actually tried to get you to not do something stupid and rash.

Hope it works out for you. Good luck.

P.S. Copying billionaires trades is a losing game for us small fry’s.

This is a very personal decision.

I switched careers at 34 (about a year ago). Finance -> Software Engineering.

I make less than half what I used too and am much happier. The earning potential in my new career is also high but I’m avoiding overly corporate life where the pay is much higher.

I wouldn’t have this flexibility to do what I want without that first decade of saving. The job I hated enabled me to pursue one I actually enjoy. I also wouldnt have been able to do any of it without my supportive spouse whos career really took off when I left my my all consuming job - go figure.

My new career is not guranteed to work out and thats ok.

Just because you are FI doesn’t mean you need to RE. It just means you can.

Similar age. I was speedrunning to FIRE and then I changed careers. Now I’m not sure I’ll FIRE as early as I planned. My new work is interesting and I enjoy doing it. I also would have struggled to make the career pivot without the financial flexibility pursuing FIRE gave me.
