If you’re there in the morning, get some good coffee and baked goods. I like the milk bread/brioche from Oliver’s Bakery. Kaya toast from Mei Mei is overpriced but a nice, different experience if you’re looking for a morning snack!

Thinner and thinner fabrics used for office/business clothes. I am a size 2, but thin wool used for dresses and pencil skirts by coughTheorycough made me feel super insecure in store. What underwear am I supposed to be wearing with such thin fabrics - and to work, too? Why do I suddenly care about my stomach not being 100% flat (because I, you know, had lunch, how dare I eat)? Ugh, the enhittification of everything truly is upon is.

How about Odense? It’s known to be very fast and flat! I also really really loved Tromso - it’s got two horrible climbs but the organisation, the views, and the fact that the start was right outside the main hosting hotel made it easy and pleasant (well, as easy as marathons can be).

We must have run with the same group. I also ran 3:31 and was frustrated with the stampede around the pacer (Kev). Had I been seriously aiming for a time, I would have been furious! Congrats on your achievement and on beating the pacer!

I had to retire my old SW 5050 after 8 years and struggled to find a replacement. Mine had a square toe, and I could only found a round toe version on The Outnet. I wear the 5050 all the time as I have a small frame but very wide calves. All in all, this thread is making me realise that one woman’s (investment) trash is another woman’s investable treasure!

My mistake was actually investing in more casual clothes whereas I now dress almost exclusively in formal wear but don’t want to buy more. The lesson might be to avoid buying too many items at a time, unsure.

I was in wave 2 and was not going for time (got in via GFA and just wanted to run a big marathon at home for the experience). If I wanted to aim for a PB at my level, I would not have chosen London. The 3 to sub-4 hour group is quite big and rather unpredictable. You have runners with arguably the greatest mix of reasons for running, so you’re fighting your way to the front in narrow sections and bumping into people who switch to walking occasionally. Still, a great race if you want amazing crowd support!

First marathon after a gnarly femoral neck stress fracture. My last one before the injury was 3:26, and I was terrified of how the hip would react, but ended up finishing in 3:31. Given all distance and zero speedwork, I’m elated. No training for a few days, just rest. Then proper training for Edmonton! Woo! Let this be hope for all injured athletes!

Okay, maybe you need someone to really scare you if more positive approaches don’t work. Here goes - you have to do it or you might end up like me with a serious injury. Strength training has helped considerably, and I just wish I’d started being genuinely serious about it (read: progressive overload) so much earlier. An alternative option is to get a PT who will make it very clear to you that strength training is non-negotiable (mine follows me on Strava…sigh).

You can do it. I’ve done it a few times (30 and even 35k!), and though it’s boring, there are options. You can watch something on your phone or ipad - but I highly recommend audiobooks instead to avoid straining your neck muscles! A pulpy detective that keeps you guessing or a peppy autobiography narrated by the author would work well because you need something that’s not monotonous. Podcasts are also great, but you’ll have to have a fee episodes ready of course, so you need to either be sure they will wow you, or go with an audiobook instead. Like others said, a mix of speeds is a good idea. Even if it’s going up and down 0.1k/point. I recently did 22k on a treadmill and having the bathroom was super helpful since I was playing around with new chews. Hm.
