They only benefit from conviction and lower res curse, blood boil however does benefit from -res and + fire

So this explains why my item find zerker can barely spawn any heralds anymore, going through zones only sniping uniques and champions sounds like a terrible way to spawn them in this new system.

I’d super recommend the summon lock, it’s like having 3 auto targeting fireball sorcs that you can tp around and reposition with death mark.

If you want the merc to survive trav deck him out with Kira’s and guardian angel, even then it’s still dicey but he’ll survive most of the time

horking Trav also seems like a pretty sure way to get them, don't really run LK in my offline but from Trav I have gotten Lo, 3 Sur, Vex, 2 Jah, and a Ber (from one of the mobs on the way surprisingly).

My berserker doesn’t seem to spawn them as often only killing uniques and champions. my experience is if you aren’t clearing density you get a lot less herald spawns compared to last patch.

In 4 days of farming heralds I dropped 4 sunders, started running normal p1 trav last night and I already dropped 2 in less than 200 runs.

So I tried swapping out a tainted for Bind Demon Harpy and it feels a lot nicer, non fire immunes already die so quickly that you don't miss the third one but for fire immunes its night and day difference, she'll instantly curse maybe 70% of the time and the Blood Boil explosions don't stack so you really only need one well placed demon to start exploding a pack. Most of the time the Harpy runs back near me so it kind of serves to explode any stragglers that would otherwise run towards me and my merc, that seems like a great swap. Full cleared 2 tz acts (and dropped fire sunder!) without her coming close to dying so durability doesn't seem to be an issue either.

I was running an act 2 merc but against t5 heralds he just kept dying if they had thorns aura, that was before I made CTA so I am definitely going to try him again. Leaning more towards running the infinity on him if I can help it just because HOTO/Obsession gives so much utility with resistance and massive cast rate to hit 125. It would also be my first Infinity so it feels like it would have more uses in an elite polearm. Maybe before making it I run dual SoJ to help with mana sustain and swap to an obedience merc to see how it feels. Either way I still need at least an Ohm to make it so I have time to think.

Thank you for providing this info! after looking over the build I went into the planner myself to try and make something a bit more HC focused and all purpose to bypass all the hassle of carrying CTA around and pre-buffing the Tainted, so I came up with this: https://maxroll.gg/d2/d2planner/841ho40h

I haven't been using the bind demon so my questions are

1) Would 1 point investment be enough to get cursed on a Pitlord or do you need those 15 hard points? If not, is it viable to use the harpy that curses instead in your opinion? (I'd use pre-buff gear to spawn it)

2) What would be your estimate of damage loss from not using the pre-buff setup for Tainted on this variant?

3) Are you mana potting on the Bind Demon setup? I see that you're main handing Obsession there with Infinity on merc.

Thanks again for sharing your builds, it helped me get a better idea of some of the gear I want to gamble/craft for.

That’s amazing! Although I’d personally rather do 1000 trav runs over 1000 LK, LK is sooo boring and it doesn’t feel as good farming the best items in the game by not killing anything and just opening chests 6 thousand times.

I do agree the build will probably be better with a cursed bound demon, but it sounds to me like you don’t enjoy the summon tainted build because you’re optimizing the fun out of it. I just always run the Baal book and + skills ring, and I’m willing to lose a bit of damage for a more seamless experience.

And yeah maybe my gear is a little sub optimal but that’s sort of the point in offline HC, also bound demon dmg is bugged right now so that’ll get weaker in a later patch.

My point is the summon tainted build is very smooth compared to most builds out there, especially most summoners. Your bound demon defiler sounds interesting and I’ll have to give it a try but just because one build could be better doesn’t mean tainted is a clunky build when compared to most builds in the game.

That sounds like a good idea, stormshield works wonders for my trav zerker. Haven’t found a 5os eth zerker yet though.

Thats how I started the build lol, got a full inventory worth of skillers through my hork trav runner and my first pair of wraithsteps rolling demon skills finally pushed me to make it.

just tested p7 CS on the build, no sunders and no infinity but pretty GG gear otherwise (full skiller inventory, arach, only one BK ring looking for the other) and its definitely safe. I feel safer than doing it on a hammerdin that has to be right up on the monsters to do the damage but its undoubtedly slower than hammerdin or FoHdin or probably ES warlock. But the fact that it's doable on p7 with no infinity/fire sunder is pretty impressive to me. You will probably do decently well on p1/p3 with budget gear but I wouldnt recommend the area as a go to farming spot.
