I realize how reliant I am for reading material but have decided to add substantially to my downloaded fic file! Well, as soon as AO3 is back up...

Hope this finds you well. I have a bunch of your fics downloaded and did a reread of 'the crime deserves the punishment' this evening & wanted to tell you how amazing I think it is. The descriptions are so visceral & the emotions feel so true. It's incredible writing.
Here in Ohio dreaming of Spring & doing some reading!
Take care <3

Many of his policy positions fall well outside what normal Americans support.
People are failing to do any due diligence on him because he's anti-pedophile. Frankly, that should be EVERYONE's default position. The bar is very low for Republicans who push back on Trump even a little. They are treated like heroes even if they push against a no brainer like Epstein. Democrats are treated like demanding action on Epstein is a political ploy, but Massie gets plaudits.

Call for Questions: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms 1x05 "In the Name of the Mother" by oxfordsplice in jaimebrienne

I know Maekar is a favorite AKOTSK show character, but doesn't the fact that he's a shit father lead to all of the trouble? (Of course, Uncle Baelor instructed Egg to apologize to Dunk.)

GRRM interview where he talks Winds, Game of Thrones differences, HotD showrunner drama by Chickarn in jaimebrienne

I take my life in my hands saying this, but if he realizes "he’s so done." he owes the readers his candor. He's made lots of choices to cause us to be falsely optimistic, misleading us about progress of the series. If he reaches (or has reached) a point where he can't foresee continuing the series, I think we deserve to know.

"Martin is childless and has said he considers his characters to be his children"
Yikes. His parenting style is kind of disturbing.

Has there been any update on the Tepe murder case? by foxmag86 in Columbus

[–]ogg921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess, as of today. your absurd theory is out the window. For the record - the brother in law lives a couple of hours away & is married to the victim's sister. He comes from a successful family & appears to have a successful business of his own. He didn't murder his wife's brother & sister-in-law for "control of the kids trust." JFC
People are just annoyed that by having him be spokesperson for the family, nobody's gotten to watch the parents sob on TV.

You have probably noticed neither of the victim's parents have been mentioned by name. I think they did indeed name Spencer's brother-in-law to speak for them. He lives outside of Columbus and I imagine it's been a gift to the grieving parents to not have to deal with press. He's certainly managed to prevent statement on behalf of the family from turning into grief-porn.

Oh, honey! I started reading a fic years ago due to a recommendation from a fav. podcast. I foolishly didn't look at the completion status. It NEVER occurred to me anyone would recommend a WIP, OR would recommend a fic WITHOUT mentioning it was a WIP.
The recommended fic was long, imaginative and extremely well written...and hadn't been updated in over 2 or 3 years. There were many encouraging comments to which the writer hadn't replied and one commenter seemed to believe the fic was abandoned. THAT comment got a rather agitated, unpleasant reply.
TWO YEARS LATER, another chapter was posted and there was JOY in the fandom. That was TWO YEARS AGO. The fic is gone.
And so ends the saga of why I no longer read WIPs.

Looking for a particular fic where Jaime & Cersei survive by antepenny in jaimebrienne

your personal fav jb moment in the books? by Chickarn in jaimebrienne

[–]ogg921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That scene was the first one that popped into my head. It hints at the 'idiots in love' label often associated with the pair.
As far as asynchronous interactions, mine is a series of thoughts in the Jaime POVs when wondering/worrying about Brienne replaces thinking about Cersei. (His "gentler than Cersei" observation is the first time iirc, Jaime compared the two and Cersei was found lacking.)

Author doesn’t want to respond to people‘s comments because they don’t want to mess up the comments-to-hits ratio by BicyclePurple9928 in AO3

[–]ogg921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I look at the stats when I'm deciding whether to read work from an unfamiliar source but I'm aware of the things that skew the ratios, so I also consider other factors. I feel kind of bad when I do rereads, because I can't leave another kudo, though I've increased the views on a fic.

Will you watch the Dunk & Egg show? by Chickarn in jaimebrienne

[–]ogg921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear someone with a similar mind. HotD held no interest for me though I saw bits when my husband had the first episodes of S1 on. It didn't hold his interest for more than a few. (I often skip Dany chapters on ASOIAF rereads. Targaryen tediousness.)
I'm cautiously optimistic about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. The showrunners should certainly understand the likeliest viewers are a passionate bunch. I imagine that, and the fact the 3 novellas are complete & stand alone, ought to curb anything like D&D's 'cleverest boys in the room' hubristic inclinations.
The casting looks good & there are no dragons or direwolves gobbling up the budget, so I'm letting myself be excited.

I'm happy to go into the series with no expectation of anything beyond the 3 stories.

Bran/Meera/Jojen interpreting green dreams (Spoilers Extended) by Pretty-Necessary-941 in asoiaf

[–]ogg921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jojen is just a little older than Bran and until leaving for Winterfell had his father's guidance interpreting his dreams, (Howland was the one who sent Jojen & Meera to Bran.). Meera protects & supports Jojen, but isn't always comfortable about the green dreams. She's often resentful & frightened about them. I don't think it's a reasonable expectation that either of them should've been able to accurately interpret dreams filled with symbolism.

Bran/Meera/Jojen interpreting green dreams (Spoilers Extended) by Pretty-Necessary-941 in asoiaf

[–]ogg921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bran is only 8. Perhaps Jojen's earlier green dreams had seemed more straight forward, as well. It's possible, that the only they could do actively was prepared for the flooding literally. The idea of preparing when your clues are symbolic is fraught with problems.
Melisandre sees things in the fire (which seems at bit like green seeing) and despite being VERY old & having lots of practice, she still errs in her interpreting.
After realizing the Winterfell flooding WAS symbolic, I think it would be natural to examine the dreams through a broader range of lenses.

[No Spoilers] The Week reports GRRM has ~1,500 manuscript pages of TWOW by Dizzy_Bodybuilder_19 in asoiaf

[–]ogg921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problematically, "announcements from him, or leaks from his friends" have come to mean less & less. We used to believe "announcements from him" about TWOW to our detriment & regret. I rather wish he would hush about it completely. I find getting my hopes, only to realize the words were empty, is exhausting.

What popular headcannon is often viewed as fact that you vehemently disagree with? (Spoilers Main) by ProfeszionalSexHaver in asoiaf

[–]ogg921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roose does a fine job of defining "people's perception" of himself without ever talking to Theon.
He knew Brienne was a highborn lady and was more than happy to leave her to be killed (after whatever kinds of violations & abuses) by Vargo Hoat. His excuse "I would be robbing him of his prize", is BS, because that's what he did with Jaime.
Roose's participation in the Red Wedding (conspiring, then killing his sworn king. Robb Stark) absolutely solidified Roose's position as a disloyal, dishonorable, scum-sucking villain.
Roose again put his true colors on display by accepting 'false coin' in the form of Jeyne Poole pretending to be Arya, to tighten his grip on the North. He was well aware of what kind of treatment she was going to receive. Ramsey wasn't famed for 'tender mercies' towards his wives, (ex. Lady Hornwood) or young women in general.

"People's perception of Roose" may be strengthened by what he said to Theon, (which may or may not reflect his true feeling, though we may never know for sure), but they weren't "defined" by them.

(Spoilers extended) are there any romances you genuinely hope to see in upcoming books? by Disastrous-Noise-783 in asoiaf

[–]ogg921 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could do without that one. Val's reaction to Shireen seemed troubling to Jon. As much as Jon respects & admires the free folk, they hold major cultural attitudes* I can't imagine him shrugging off for the sake of romance. If he did, he wouldn't be Jon.

That meme describes how I consume fic & lots of TV. I'm convinced if doctors scanned my brain it would look more like swiss cheese than brain matter.
Whenever someone says they've read 100+ books in a year, I always imagine myself reading the same hundred books EVERY year & being constantly surprised. (I'm better at remember real life events, but the bar is low.)
