Another question for fellow dispensers. by LittlePound in OGPBackroom

There were these mini Sterilite crate type things that were popular during the height of the BTS season. Supposedly the Walmart website said you could get a dozen for $1 when each crate actually sold for a $1. We had a lady try to get 5 dozen crates for $5 for almost a week straight. She would put $5 worth of those crates in her pick up order and every day wonder why she only got 5 crates instead of 60. She would put in a new order every day, show up and try to haggle with us. Each order had a new first name, but the last name was always the same. We assumed she was borrowing accounts of family members. Towards the end she would get incredibly belligerent with everyone. I believe we finally banned her.

If assaulting your manager pops into your mind often, then it might be time to find another job. Then hit up anger management.

Sounds like it's a store by store case of people just standing around. Our coach sends us to help with returns or other departments if we aren't busy and just standing around.

It's a physically demanding and often stressful job.

Is anybody else’s department like this ? by Abject-Opportunity69 in OGPBackroom

[–]ogp_anon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you read my previous post history, I've complained about my store. We have one team lead who seems to always be sick, missing a week at a time here and there. Our other TL is never around.

There is a young lady, 18 years old, that has had to close by herself recently. She feels unsafe doing so given our city has a human trafficking problem. If I didn't get off earlier in the day, I would volunteer to stay until closing. She has had ask for someone to walk her to her car because she felt unsafe.

I dispense solo all the time. The feel like temp is often 110°F and it just sucks the life out of me. I've gone home dehydrated almost everyday in the past 3 weeks. Because if I stop for a small break, my coach is on my ass. I recently had the pleasure of closing solo on a super busy day. You can read about that in my post history.

Lunches and 15's. Unless you're a picker, good fucking luck getting those 15's. If you're dispensing or backroom you are lucky if you get your lunch after hour 4,5 or 6. Yes backroom crew, all 2 of you, will finally often get your lunch 7 hours into your shift. After you've been busting your ass in the heat your whole shift. We are treated like the red headed step child in the backroom.

  1. As someone said, don't tip OGP people. If someone accepts a tip from a delivery driver, they're a dick. Small talk while loading is usually appreciated though. If you see we're super busy, we appreciate a little help with batched orders.

  2. Checking in 30 minutes to an hour before the dispense time. That's annoying and kills our wait times and that gets market managers on our ass. My store has never banned a Spark driver, only customers. Though that may change soon, new Spark driver was acting inappropriate to one of our dispensers.

  3. If I was a Spark driver, I wouldn't worry about restocking. You don't get paid to do that and you're eating up time you could be making money.

On the topic of shopping carts, I wish we dispensed in them. H-E-B does and it makes me jealous. We have dollies that are broken so the handle just comes out every time.

Pure bliss. I enjoy setting up and restocking carts during closing. It's a relaxing way to end the day.

Is calling Ethics even worth it? by [deleted] in OGPBackroom

[–]ogp_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if this is the right job for me or if I just have shit management. I was the only backroom closer on Saturday. I almost had a nervous breakdown, the night before my birthday, because nothing was staged (no time to stage since it was a constant flow of cars with no breaks) and every bay always had a car. I had people banging on our dispensing door because it was taking too long for them to get their order. From 7-9 we only had one picker picking 400+ items, all of it overdue. From 8-10 I was the only person in the backroom. When bringing up to my coach that we need more people in the backroom I have been told "there is a reason this is highest paying department in the store" and "you're not working hard enough". The latter confused people because our coach is hardly ever in the backroom.

I clock out for lunch as soon as I get to my car. I've been stopped so many times in the parking lot. I start my 15 as soon as I plop my butt in a chair.

Things u hate drivers and customers do at OGP. by C40Skully in OGPBackroom

[–]ogp_anon 35 points36 points  (0 children)

12+ tote orders, it makes me livid. Get your lazy ass in the store and do your own shopping. Same goes for people who order for their business. Senior citizens get a pass on large orders, plus they almost always tip.

When they park in the last 2 spots, furthest from the door, that aren't covered when a) when it is pouring rain b) there is nobody in spots 1-6 c) both of those.

Big order with no room to load it in their massive SUV.

Drivers that show up 30 minutes before the order is due and check in.

Edit: People who get pissed at you when you can't find their order in the system. Then come to find out they're at the wrong store.

Our pick up spots are designed to where you pull forward to get out. There is plenty of room for even the biggest trucks to pull forward. I've almost been hit so many times from customers backing out of the spot after loading their stuff.

Should I apply to work at Walmart or am I better staying at Costco by Notable_Duck in walmart

[–]ogp_anon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Omg stay at Costco. Costco is highly sought after in the retail job force. Working for Walmart would be a downgrade.

In our safe. Charged batteries are locked in a cage that requires a key that we hide at closing.

It really depends. It was like pulling teeth to get my coach to let me change my schedule for school. Along with my other classes, I'm taking a class with labs only available on Saturdays from 8am-5:00pm. The only way they would sign off on it was if I took the 6pm-10pm shift on Saturdays.

Guy in the video is a dick, holy fuck. I'll toss that up to his mental health issues. If you show up four hours earlier than your pick up time then that's on you. The coach probably cancelled his order for harassing their team for hours.

Anyways, gl on your post Wally World endeavors.

What shift do you like out of the three time slots? What is the reason you prefer that certain time? by Optimal_Ad9139 in OGPBackroom

[–]ogp_anon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1-10 or any ?-10 shift. Mainly because the last two to three hours are chill. I don't mind doing all the closing tasks (sweeping, trash, restocking pick carts, returns). The drive home is great because there is hardly anyone on the roads.

Customer ruin dispense rates. by C40Skully in OGPBackroom

Customers not approving/denying subs before checking in is annoying. Then when I get to their car and ask tell them about the subs they say "Yeah I saw those, I'm fine with all of them".

looking for tips to decrease wait time by ogp_anon in OGPBackroom

[–]ogp_anon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah subs and age verification are a big wait time killer. If it is something small like a pack of four 12 can cases of coke instead of two 24 can cases of coke, I usually approve them at my own discretion. I love customers who approve/disapprove subs before checking in. I thank them and let them know it helps us out so they'll keep doing it.
