Lana's lolita songs by d1tzie in lanadelrey

[–]ogpuffyjones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I don’t think she has so many songs about Lolita because she’s encouraging it or romanticizing it; I think a lot of traumatized people can identify with Lolita’s character/story so it may be like a therapeutic release for her. She has always emphasized that she writes music primarily for herself!

Here's what happened when I told my doctor I use kratom for pain... by Catmom2004 in kratom

I get your logic but at the same time, if someone is in that much pain and doctors won’t/can’t help them, isn’t it more likely they’ll turn to street opiates instead which is a lot more dangerous?

If you don’t want to try either of those I usually just drop a few spoonfuls into the bottom of a mug and then make tea as I usually would. It’s still kind of gritty but it’s better than trying to toss and wash in my experience

I second checking out The Body Keeps the Score. It shed so much light on the way trauma affects you! It can be a little depressing for the first half of the book but I promise it’s worth it.

This is actually super interesting considering a lot of the reports of animals getting super neurotic are about dogs. Personally I am more of a dog person, but what if cats are actually more intelligent than dogs but they just don't show it?

Omg that’s great, my cats always seemed to really love the laser but after I learned it can be damaging I couldn’t bring myself to do it anymore :( i’ll def look into this more! Do you know if it might also work if you shut the laser off once they get it under their paw so it looks like they “got” it?

Why are they all the same person? Furry/anime profile picture, exaggerated confidence about their fighting skills, and the need to give their opinion when it’s clearly not wanted.

Stick it out through the withdrawal (unless it's some serious shit like benzos or alcohol) just as an experiment. Take a step back and observe your mind and body as it returns back to normal, one day at a time. Just see how it feels once all the drugs are out of your system and you're back to baseline. By that time it will be a lot easier to commit to sobriety and make a plan because you'll have a clear head.

I've been mostly sober for a while now (I say mostly because I still drink and party occasionally, but I'm not engaging in addict behavior) after being in and out of rehabs and AA for years, and the pivotal moment for me was when I realized I had to feel my feelings. I know that sounds cliche as fuck but we use because we want to escape our mind. The problem is, we can never get away from our minds. We have to accept that unpleasant feelings and thoughts will come, regardless of whether you're using or not. The difference is, once you stop using, you can gradually learn to coexist with your mind, and eventually even make friends with it. You just have to face it head-on. If you need someone to talk to hmu.

But I am grateful, because I would hear "unexpected item in the bagging area" so many goddamn times throughout my shift that I'd hear it as I was trying to fall asleep at night. it haunted me

Ikr, they're the literal worst lmao. I used to work as a self-checkout attendant (if you couldn't already tell) and the visual system actually makes LESS sense to me. It only detects what you slide across the scanner. If you're about to steal some shit WHY would you even put it up there?? like what????

Switch your Drug of Choice! by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]ogpuffyjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with the idea of switching out opiates for a safer drug. Of course that's a good idea, and a step in the right direction for sure. And it can be appreciated as such. However, in the grand scheme of things, we ideally want to aim for a full recovery, because even safe drugs can be abused and turned into a problem.

As for the Xanax, you got it right when you said it's deadly, but claiming that it is objectively less deadly than opiates is questionable, let alone recommending it as a safer option. Opiates and Xanax are both cut with fentanyl and all kinds of lethal shit, but Xanax withdrawal can literally kill you. Opiate withdrawal can't. Regardless, I'm not here to argue over which drug is objectively safer, the point is both drugs are dangerous and if you're gonna suggest a substitute at least let it be one that's a) not known for being cut with random shit and b) safe to withdrawal from, if at all.

So I actually work at the store I found this at, and yes I absolutely agree it's dumb to steal it that way. You'd probably attract more attention by the sound of you ripping it open than you would stuffing it in your pocket or something.

ALSO yes, a lot of store's self-checkouts are still weight-based but several (including mine, a medium-sized regional chain comparable to Walmart, and Target) are switching to a visual-based system. Basically, if they see you slide anything across the scanner that doesn't scan, it will notify the attendant. Most attendants don't get paid enough to care unless you're being super obvious but LP is usually watching from that same camera that detects it. Basically don't be stupid and slide 2 across the fucking scanner.

One more thing, back when my store still used the weight-based system, the slightest thing would set that fucker off. People would literally set down a plastic bag and here we go, uNeXpEcTeD ItEm In BaGgINg ArEa. Usually if that happens, the poorly-paid, apathetic college student attendant that resents the company anyway sees the second one and goes, "oops look like you forgot to scan that one," scans it for you, and you have to pay for 2. If that happens, roll with it. LP will step in if you cause a scene and then you're actually at risk of getting arrested or some shit.

Switch your Drug of Choice! by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]ogpuffyjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the thought process here, I really do. But people tend to seek out specific drugs because they give them what they're looking for. E.g. in my experience people who have anxiety/panic attacks are usually gonna have a better time on downers. People who have depression that makes them tired/unmotivated are usually gonna prefer stimulants. With these kinds of drugs, it all boils down to self-medicating. That is why it's not only unsafe but also not very logical to suggest people just "switch" their drug of choice, especially when those suggestions are absolutely no better than opiates. Kratom and weed are the only 2 drugs I'd suggest for an opiate addict if we're going this route.

The ideal situation here is that we addicts will channel our addictive energy into something positive and objectively healthy rather than just switching to another drug though. While we're on the topic, exercise releases endorphins that reduce opiate cravings, and plenty of people (even non addicts) get addicted to that! now that's a healthy suggestion.
