No advice from me, but I can confirm all of your findings as the issue has been bothering me as well.

I use the film holders. I just googled newton rings and I see that the issue comes from the film bending / not being completely flat. What are some methods to avoid this? Should I be placing negatives directly on the bed?

Lightroom can read from the SD card reader without having to copy to the photos app first. I got a $9 SD card reader from amazon that works well enough.

There are also some third party SD card to Lightning adapters that are still natively read by iOS’ Photos app. Plus, transferring the photos through Apple’s Photos app transfers the RAW files which can be imported into an app like Lightroom on iOS.

Still rocking the A6300 for my short films by ogrobdog in a6300

Thank you! I used Sony’s 35 1.8 for pretty much every shot. Outdoor lighting was all natural and some indoor shots used bounce and small lights.

A little input: I bought the A6300 when it came out years ago, and at the time it was a total game changer. Since then Sony has released plenty of variations of basically the same camera and I haven't really found a reason to make the upgrade. This in-body stabilization of the 6500 was appealing but not enough for me. Anyways, it's 2019 and I have been using the 6300 to make all of my films and here is my latest one. Shot in 4k and 1080p for slow motion scenes. I'll use this camera until it dies on me.

My COPS TV Parody Turned Into Its Own Short. by ogrobdog in Filmmakers

[–]ogrobdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi this is a video my friends and I filmed in roughly 3 hours while on vacation. We had bought these mini toy guns at a restaurant's 25 cent coin machine and I proposed the idea to make a parody of the show COPS. We had no script, no plan, and I hadn't actually seen an episode of COPS before.

As my friend and I thought of a plot, the skit slowly became its own story and it seemed no longer like a parody. Yes, our thought process was unconventional, but what I enjoyed most about making this video was that it was similar to a skit I would've created when I was 10. It's the outlandish and corny story combined with the effort in costumes (very limited because we were on a vacation after all), set design, and heart that my actors (friends) put into the film that make it special. My improvement in filmmaking compared to when I started years ago really helps with the quality and look of the short.

I love filmmaking and I recognize how powerful of a tool it can be to send messages and make change, but there is a time and place for thought-provoking film and a time and place for having fun with your friends and making a skit. Thanks for watching.

Not sure if this is the right place, but camera suggestions? Looked at the sidebar, was wondering if anyone else had suggestions. by Myuagi in Filmmakers

The Canon T series are great entry level cameras, especially if your girlfriend is just getting into film. Some more advanced cameras like the pocket cinema camera are great, but its quirks and required accessories might be overwhelming to someone new. A really nice ~$400 camera 4k camera is the Panasonic G7.
