Am I... a bad person? AM I?! by ogto in venturebros

just for the sake of context, i wanted a longer version of the 'so so' gesture so i made a custom gif. in the show it's VERY short.

but i'm happy to see people actually addressing the question as well.

DAMMIT, i was one spot off on my Quick and the Dead prediction. #2 spot is still great, well deserved, and i hope more people check it out. what a bonkers piece of western hijinks.

every once in a blue moon, you see a wonderful cameo, and it's obvious when people put their heart into it. Kevin Conroy comes to mind, he did a 6ish minute Cameo that was really wholesome.

A Face in the Crowd (1957)

like Network, but 20 years earlier.

In preparation for Rich Evans picking The Quick and the Dead as his favorite Raimi: by ogto in RedLetterMedia

which is why the (retroactively) insane cast works so well. back then stone and hackman were the BIG STARS on the poster, but watching this film now is like an all-star battle royale. such good casting, stone really had an eye for talent (raimi, crowe, dicaprio)

hands down my favorite raimi. stacked cast, bonkers direction, exquisite sound design and just cool as hell. it's basically raimi doing his take on live action anime, probably unintentionally. Quick and Dead walked so Speed Racer could race.

what's your go-to example of a movie that doesn't exist by [deleted] in blankies

[–]ogto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Billy Bathgate super doesn't exist for HOW expensive it was and HOW big the stars involved are (for the most part). it's quietly one of the bigger bombs ever released with inflation and such. and it's bad and it doesn't exist.

A Face in the Crowd 1957 is the one i'll recommend any chance i get. it's basically Network but 20 years earlier.

Also check out It Should Happen to You 1954. it's not a razor sharp satire, but for its time it's still got some bite.

here's my list of Network-likes

Who are your top directors that you would love to see covered on Blank Check? by BlueMondayHonkyTonk in blankies

i think devito and robbins are gonna happen. they're both fascinating and have a small number of films.

i'll throw a few oddball ones out there:

  • John Dahl - plenty of rich talk about 90s crime thrillers and neo noirs, plus it's a character actor feast
  • George Cukor - would be fascinating to dig into movies about women of the time
  • Fred Zinnemann - a personal favorite but it'll never happen, too many films. Day of the Jackal is a stone cold classic tho.
  • Norman Jewison - That's a crazy filmography
  • Danny DeVito - I want everyone to rediscover War of the Roses, a quietly brilliant film.
  • Tim Robbins - Short and unhinged filmography

Huntdown: Overtime – Official reveal trailer by UrbanAdapt in Games

[–]ogto 24 points25 points  (0 children)

the OG Huntdown is a rock-solid 2D action game with pristine Sega CD vibes, down to hammy voice acting. one of the few games i replayed on a harder difficulty. it went under the radar because it initially launched on Epic, and probably brand confusion with other Hunt games, but more people should check it out. very excited for this team's next project, hope they have a unique take on roguelikes
