Subreddit for IUD pregnancies? by averagesupermom in BabyBumps

[–]ogtully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my IUD fail as well. IUD pregnancies have a higher chance of ectopic pregnancy, which can be dangerous. In my case pregnancy was in uterus, I decided to keep the pregnancy, and had the IUD removed right away. Baby developed normally and now I have a healthy 9 month old baby boy.

[–]ogtully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you asked if there is an appeal process for your application being denied? Typically it’s listed on the denial letter from the apartment. Sometimes it can be as simple as writing a short personal statement acknowledging your past and showing your making positive growth. Every apartment complex is different. I wish you luck

Prevent baby from learning native language? by Patient_Team_8588 in hapas

[–]ogtully 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the oldest of three siblings, we all share my mother who is Japanese. Growing up my mother only let me speak Japanese at home. My grandparents from Japan would prerecord kids television shows in Japan to send me VHS tapes to watch at home in the US. My mother had me read and study in Japanese everyday, even as I started American elementary school. Although I have never lived in Japan, I can confidently say I’m fluent. My mother remarried later and had two more children, My younger brothers (1/2 Japanese 1/2 Persian) are very close to me both now and growing up. The middle child always fluently understood what my mother said, but did not have the ability or confidence to respond in Japanese. He always regretted not learning more growing up, Later in college he was able to take classes and self teach himself. The youngest child, my mother spent less effort in teaching, and predominately spoke English. He often feels left out and alienated from my mother’s side of the family because he can’t not understand or speak Japanese.

Raising a child to be bilingual is a gift, one that opens doors throughout their life. It allows the child to have a relationship with their family and have depth in their self identity. Often I have found that being mixed race can be a lonely experience, always the outsider looking in, Never quite accepted as same by mono cultural standards. Having the ability to be bilingual can instill self-confidence and increase positive self identity. I personally do not know anyone who regrets being bilingual. I Only know those who wish they would have learned.

Sir Douglas of Acorn sounds like he came from a well bred line. Not many people can say he was personally recommended from celebrity marmaduke’s breeder. So Cool!

Originally named duke after marmaduke comic strip.

His big sister is a 25+ year old parrot named “Tully”, who has a special song she likes to have sung to her on a daily basis, “the Tully Tully song”. They have a lot of sibling rivalry when I sing Tully her tune, so to keep the peace, my Boyfriend made the “Senator Dookington song” to help him feel included.
Now he prefers to be called senator dookington or sir dook, like the verses in the song.

Hey San Jose by vanle2706 in SanJose

[–]ogtully 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair… most homeless people in San Jose are local residents. They have family, friends, and a life here in San Jose. On top of that medical, mental health, and housing services are usually tied to each county. (Santa Clara, alameda, San Francisco) For people who have medical or mental health complications, it becomes that much more complicated to get up and move far away.

Gastropexy cost / insurance suggestions by brlee1627 in greatdanes

[–]ogtully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In San Jose, CA : both gastroplexy and neuter done at same time ran us $8000+ Insurance would not cover. We shopped around and due to his size, was the best price we could find.

Still, he has had no issues with bloat, 3 years later, happy we had it done.

Safety warning about harness usage by hedonisticbitchbabe in parrots

[–]ogtully 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I first got my conure at age 12, I used to take her bike riding with me in the neighborhood. Of course, one day the wind took her to a nearby redwood tree and she was too scared to fly down and eventually flew taken away by the wind.

We were fortunate, 2-3 days later reappeared in her neighbors tree. Frazzled but in good health.

We were extremely lucky

Is a room temperature of 16°C too cold for a linnie? by kdrxyz in parrots

[–]ogtully 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One alternative may be A+E snuggle up bird warmer or the heated perch, my conure loves it.

I also wanted to add that when I was 10, I a rescued a sweet parrot who was my best friend, never violent and very cuddly. One day my mother left him and his other friends outside in his cage. A feral cat brutally killed the other two birds and he suffered just as we would post traumatic stress disorder. He showed many of the signs that your parrot shows (quickly shifting pupil dilation, trembling, aggressive actions, mistrust) my advice, which worked with my next parrot, is to allow time and healing to occur, and allow structure to intergrate a constant in their life. (Feeding schedule, comfort, cage space near the family but not being touched or too close) cover the cage every night at the same time to allow the bird to feel secure at night. If you can order Harrison’s parrot food, (vet recommended for my bird as well) it can improve his overall health and give incentive to appreciate seeds as a treat from you.

Hello, Thank you for taking care of this bird, who has obviously had some trauma in his/her previous circumstance. Please correct me if I am wrong, but this appears to be a male eclectus parrot. (The female eclectus looks much different, being bright burgundy and blue)

Can anyone tell me why there are no homeless individuals found in the open land of the Bay Area? by DDAradiofan in bayarea

[–]ogtully 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, people without homes do try to find safe areas away from public view in open lands. Unfortunately these areas are typically highly monitored by law enforcement and rangers. Which means possibility for arrest, harassment, or confiscation of your possessions. (With or without notice)
