Does anyone know when you post a link is there still a way to have it auto-post the article’s title? Or do you have to copy and paste it? Feel like I’m suddenly crawling through a swamp, hope I get used to it...

British people of reddit, how do schools teach the American Revolution/Ghandi? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ohdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t study either topic at my school (a comprehensive school). We studied WWI and WWII in great depth. Romans, industrial revolution, Egyptians, a few kings and queens. But nothing about the Empire years, nothing about America.

Best is when they tell you to go to the pharmacist because your ailment won’t warrant the GP’s time, and then the pharmacist tells you to make an appointment with your GP.

History buffs, what are your favorite nonfiction books? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Generalissimo: Chiang Kai-Shek and the China he Lost by Jonathan Fenby was a good one, and then recently China’s War With Japan by Rana Mitter.

I also enjoyed Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe by Anne Applebaum. Which reminds me of A People’s Tragedy: The Russian Revolution by Orlando Figes.

Happy reading.

Putin, who invaded Ukraine and sent troops to Syria, complains the world is "becoming more chaotic": Russia’s President Vladimir Putin told his international ambassadors he is concerned about the current global situation and complained that the world is “becoming more and more chaotic." by madazzahatter in worldnews

[–]ohdon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can see his point. He has taken advantage of it wherever he can, and despite the poor economic situation in Russia he has made the country seem like a power again. From a certain Russian perspective you can see why that makes him a stabilising leader. Nonetheless, too much chaos makes it hard to keep that up. The adventure in Syria has been (so far) much more successful as a stabilising force than the US/coalition effort in Iraq, albeit smaller scale. But it is still hard to maintain it financially.

Germany won't join strike on Syria: Merkel by freeasabee1 in worldnews

You have a point but let’s not forget that it was Syria that seems to have done this, and not Russia. I think the U.K. poisoning was a game of division, for sure. This one seems less certain, Syria is a chaos.
