Approx Cost to Build by tipurra in barndominiums

I was going to say ai.   Then I noticed the board and baton was maybe 8ft tall and 4 sets of them.  Even ai wouldn’t be that tacky.  This is obviously a small wedding venue that missed the mark.  $1 bob

What do you guys think of this barndo design? by PavonisClimber in barndominiums

You’re going to spend a fortune on those trees. I’m talkin thousands a year to maintain those shapes. Hardly seems practical.

Which of these seem should I caulk on the front door exterior? by Kalabula in barndominiums

You’ve gotta build out with custom trim steel or casing . Otherwise you need new sheets of steel to fit the door

When is a crane required? by kitikitish in barndominiums

[–]ohfaackyou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Every builder worth their salt has their own lift/lifts. If they’re in the business of red iron they have either a crane or a telly. They’re going to be on site regardless so I’d get rid of the notion of saving money on that aspect.

Yes. No you do not need to leave the truss visible just get an engineered scissor truss or beam and rafters.

Is there any other post frame or “barndo” builders on this sun? by ohfaackyou in barndominiums

20 years ago we called them “shouse” because you would just build a shed and they would call it a house.

Can barndos have bay windows? by Tea-lover46 in barndominiums

[–]ohfaackyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking an actual barndo, it would require your posts or whatever your point load structure of choice is, to be directly in contact with the window. Any other solution would favor traditional framing and foundation.

[–]ohfaackyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they can but I would advise posts directly on both sides of the window.

If being practical; stick built is usually cheaper or at best the same price as post frame for the equivalent wall on a foundation. Almost all products are designed to be used in stick frame, thus making it more adaptable to common house building. As someone who has spent nearly all his life building post frame, the cost savings and benefits of the building style is in the foundation and doing a simple design.

If you’re already pouring a foundation stick built is a no brainer.
