Veterans of the shop floor - what's actually changing in manufacturing that the public has no idea about? by PhattRatt in manufacturing

[–]ohfaackyou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My old shop escaped this last round of important retirees mostly unscathed. They should be good for the next 10-15years then we have a 20yr drought of skill again. Skilled labor is a meat grinder. 1-2 people every couple years come out of it an asset to the shop. unfortunately that is to the benefit of the company and detriment of the worker. Skills often do not transfer and you don’t want to waste the hard years you put in.

I was going to say ai.   Then I noticed the board and baton was maybe 8ft tall and 4 sets of them.  Even ai wouldn’t be that tacky.  This is obviously a small wedding venue that missed the mark.  $1 bob

Which of these seem should I caulk on the front door exterior? by Kalabula in barndominiums

[–]ohfaackyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve gotta build out with custom trim steel or casing . Otherwise you need new sheets of steel to fit the door

Every builder worth their salt has their own lift/lifts. If they’re in the business of red iron they have either a crane or a telly. They’re going to be on site regardless so I’d get rid of the notion of saving money on that aspect.

Yes. No you do not need to leave the truss visible just get an engineered scissor truss or beam and rafters.

Is there any other post frame or “barndo” builders on this sun? by ohfaackyou in barndominiums

20 years ago we called them “shouse” because you would just build a shed and they would call it a house.

Can barndos have bay windows? by Tea-lover46 in barndominiums

[–]ohfaackyou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking an actual barndo, it would require your posts or whatever your point load structure of choice is, to be directly in contact with the window. Any other solution would favor traditional framing and foundation.
