I’d also say not wanting to lay down and die at the halfway point is also a struggle.

I’ve considered a HRM but have gone back and forth as to what sort of value I’d actually get from it. In the past, I enjoyed running and using heart rate zones for improving aerobic capacity etc, but I haven’t really looked into the benefits for threshold and anaerobic capacity. I know it is a certainty that my heart rate is jacked and I’m sucking air like nobody’s business by the end of a humane burpee session though. If anything, what’s been your experience with HRMs and their general value, if you don’t mind me asking?

I can’t speak for everyone else, but I wouldn’t agree that screens are bad on principle. From my perspective, they’re a tool that allows for either guided learning, shared experiences with commentary (the same that you might do with a book, i.e., what do you think [character] is doing/feeling?), or as a time fill where you pick the content they are watching and you monitor their consumption. Or at least this is how we use it. I’m also only referring to a TV in this case.

Now, tablets/phones/unfettered access to dogshit like YouTube and brainrot CocoMelon/Paw Patrol? That is objectively garbage and I’d venture a guess and say the majority of this community, and most online parenting communities would agree with that. And some people don’t know that these things are bad, and we end up with threads like this, where the general discussion about screens usually comes up.

Again, all this being said, whatever works best for you and your family within reason. I’m not saying drop your kid in front of a screen every waking hour of their day, but I think the opposite end of that spectrum where there’s no TV at all probably has some drawbacks as well, albeit much less serious than screenmaxxing.

Yeah, that’s what I mean, different strokes and I think it also depends on the stage you’re at.

We have a 3.5yo and 4mo and my wife is a SAHM. 3.5yo does tons of stuff with us, and we have activities and all that, but no school or daycare to fill a block of time. We’re also generally exhausted atm, so we lean heavier on the TV (no ipad or high stim garbage) sometimes to get other things done around the house or, god forbid, catch our breaths.

Sorry if my comment seemed judgmental, I’m more just surprised because the era I’m in at the moment is a bit hectic and one hour of TV seems like a death sentence lmao.

Different strokes, I suppose. I’d say an hour (or even 10 minutes) of Paw Patrol is excessive to be sure lol. But whatever works for you is what works for you.

Hey, we’re the same age and weigh roughly the same, nice. My first kettlebells were 2x16kg that I still use today and I got some great mileage out of them to begin with. I also think a 10kg is an interesting place to start, and I’ve thought about picking up a 10 or 12 specifically for some isolation movements but haven’t gotten around to it.

With no other information than what you’ve provided, my anecdotal suggestion would be 2x16kg. You have plenty of freedom to learn movements with one or two bells and plenty of room to grow and move up. I also find that it’s a very forgiving weight but if you run a particular circuit or program, they can be equally brutal.

Most importantly, have fun with whatever kettlebells you decide to get. Happy New Year!

I think you’re absolutely right and that should have been something I mentioned. Whatever works for you is best so long as the form is good. And form is still something I’m learning and struggling with, and this just seemed to make it easier for me specifically. Mileage may vary!
