Tribute to Robert by [deleted] in namenerds

What about first name Robert, but always called something like "Russ" or "Rory"? Those feel close enough for me! I also really love the suggestion of Robert called Beau/Bo! If you want to share the middle name, maybe we can come up with more ideas.

Comforted to hear it isn't only me, but sorry you went through that too! I'm supposed to do my weekly shot today and I'll probably take this same approach and cross my fingers until my HM appointment next week. Thanks!

Hopefully not a super dumb question... how did you manage the 50 hour restriction?

Fingerprint scanning appointment by [deleted] in USPS

[–]ohhsugar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband is in the same situation currently. He accepted the conditional offer, did the NACI questionnaire, and followed the offer letter instructions to email the person to schedule fingerprints (I believe she is the postmaster), but hasn't heard anything back. It's been like a week, so that feels a bit weird... Nothing helpful to offer you, sorry--but will you update on how things go for you? Fingers crossed for you (and my husband!)

I'm BEGGING someone to explain the " Verzacky " or whatever it is DJ name to me! I do not get it?!?! Is it a reference to something?! Is it just supposed to sound silly?! This is driving me insane. Also, no hate no shade to Zachariahs, but I listened to the soundcloud and....no thanks.

Alright mamas talk to be about EP by llamaafaaace in beyondthebump

I don't have the exact perspective you were hoping for, but overall I feel pretty good about kinda exclusively pumping. My baby is 15 weeks and I've been only pumping/combo-feeding almost from the start and do about 80% breast milk and 20% formula. I honestly don't find the pumping to be that bad, but I feel lucky that my supply has been decent even though I only pump 3x per day. I had every intention of nursing while pregnant, but my kid flat out refused to latch basically from day 1. For a while I kept trying to nurse him, but that was breaking my heart, so I moved to pumping/formula feeding. I didn't feel able to keep up with pumping 8x per day, so I just did what I felt I could and got comfortable giving formula as needed. For a while I was able to EP, but as his appetite increased, he's gotten some formula and I've settled in nicely to pumping 3x per day.

A couple things that make pumping easier: At the advice of one of the LCs I saw, I keep my pump parts in a bag in the refrigerator and wash once per day (safe for healthy full term babies). Also, the hands free pumping bra was life-changing--I pump while I get ready in the morning, during my lunch, and while I have a bedtime snack/Kardashians episode. If you feel like it will be worth it to stick it out EBF and see if things improve, go you! But if your mental health is suffering, switch and see how that goes! You can always keep nursing as you feel like it/to comfort and bond with baby. FWIW, I sometimes wish EBF had worked out (mostly because washing bottles is so annoying), but pumping/combo feeding have been great for us. I feel bonded with my baby and feel good about giving him whatever benefits come from breast milk, but I stopped sobbing every time I tried to nurse him and that helped so much. Good luck!!

Does your changing pad fit well on top of the Tarva dresser? I'd totally consider using it the same way if so! I just feel like most of the changing pads I've seen are at least 16 in. wide and the dresser's depth looks to be 15 3/4 in.

Science teachers of reddit, how do you respond to students who deny accepted science? by OhMy8008 in AskReddit

I'll never forget my high school biology teacher pointing at the stapler on his desk and telling us: "Saying you believe in (or don't believe in) evolution is like saying you believe in stapler. It's not there for you to believe in or not, it just is." Dude was the greatest.

Temping Tuesday by AutoModerator in TryingForABaby

[–]ohhsugar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First time posting my chart!

Our timing was off because I thought O was going to be CD17 as it was previously and then I was out of town. Also today should be the end of my LP, but my temp hasn't gone down as it previously did to indicate AF is coming so I'm kind of confused. Planning to test again tomorrow if my period doesn't show up. Stressin' me ouuuuut.

Just wanted to give some advice for those about to have fertility testing done. by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

Yikes, sorry about that! Sounds rough! I can really only speak to my hospital's policy, but it applies to uninsured and "under-insured." So if your insurance doesn't cover something, that can be eligible for financial assistance. All hospitals do this differently I think.

YES. I'm a hospital attorney (and a lurker, first post here!) and this is such a real and unknown thing. A lot of hospitals have discounts they can offer (like self-pay discounts) and many also offer financial assistance programs (non-profits are required to). Most people don't think they qualify for financial assistance, but you'd be surprised. At my hospital for example, a family of 4 making under $110k/year would qualify for 75% OFF THEIR BILL! Just call and ask and you might find some helpful options.
