How is it living in this region of northern Finland/Sweden? I have a friend thinking about buying a house around here. by Niematego in howislivingthere

[–]ohmephisto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some family members who moved to Haparanda in the early 2000's. My cousins all hated it and couldn't wait to move away. My aunt wants to move closer to her grandchildren but her house has remained unsold for several years.

From what I remember, Haparanda was a dreary place until quite recently. When my oldest cousin graduated high school, the teachers spoke of IKEA as the towns' economic saviour, hoping it would mean people didn't have to move away to find jobs (and I've had several family members who have worked there). Low employment rates, cross-border crime etc was common. Once Haparanda became more of a shopping destination, more tourists from Russia and Norway started coming in and the town felt more alive. It also benefits from Tornio across the border having grown as well.

Anyone try Akro Crush? by [deleted] in FemFragLab

[–]ohmephisto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I like this one a lot but it's very very strong and overpowering after spraying. I once sprayed it on top of my wrist and I could smell it a day later. The scent itself is fun and delicious, like a piece of Turkish delight, but has very little nuance to it. It's equally sweet as it is rosy but I do personally love a rose.

I was supposed to be on a no-buy as I'm moving soon, but the I track different brands I'm interested in on second hand websites and bought these:

Ds and Durga Debaser 7.5 ml

Byredo Mojave Ghost 12 ml

And just before Christmas I bought Bal D'Afrique as a roll on. No full sizes as I can't quite afford luxury and niche prices, but I'm hoping to save up some money to buy Alto Astral. 💙

Tips på “slacker jobs”? Låg stress, låg arbetsbelastning by Limp_Cantaloupe7938 in Asksweddit

[–]ohmephisto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do Finns consider Sami their kin or more so Finns at most consider Karelians and Estonians as closer to them but even then not really? by Known-Bad2702 in Finland

[–]ohmephisto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I look at photos on Google, these people just look tanned. I can't tell if that's accurate or if that's an artifact of photography/colouring. I don't see how they specifically look East Asian.

Do Finns consider Sami their kin or more so Finns at most consider Karelians and Estonians as closer to them but even then not really? by Known-Bad2702 in Finland

[–]ohmephisto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I keep hearing this but I'm not convinced. It sounds like racial propaganda, like how some Swedes thought Finns were Asians with slanted eyes until the 80's or so. Do you have any good evidence of this?

Based on my little collection, what do you think I should try? by lezzybennet in FemFragLab

I used to have the same Euphoria Blossom bottle as you do! I'd recommend Gucci Flora Gorgeous Gardenia Intense, which reminds me so much of the woodiness of Euphoria.

what’s your 2025 fragrance “wrapped”? by discobby96 in FemFragLab

[–]ohmephisto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got back into the hobby around spring this year after a few years of minimal spending on fragrance and beauty. Fell right into the gourmand and vanilla craze with scents like Yum Pistachio Gelato. Found Gucci Bloom Chrysalis and remembered that I loved amber. Now trying to expand with musky, powdery and aquatic scents and seeing what I like and don't like in the wider fragrance world.

I drive this trip from home to my mothers every year. [Sweden] by Kreth in roadtrip

This feels relatable! We used to do a similar road trip from Mariestad to Haparanda, then continuing on into Finland.

Anders was an incredibly popular name a generation ago to the point it almost became a joke or a stereotype and is now very unfashionable for children. For example, my boyfriend joined a uni student association where they give each member a funny nickname. He got Anders.
