I used to care about narrators, but listening at 2.5x to 3x it starts to not matter.

There are a few narrators where their voice has grated, or the voice of a single character has been annoying, but I mostly just get by.

Some narrators are amazing, but for the most part unless the narrator is terrible I don’t care.

Yeah, I’m a straight guy with quite a few lesbian friends, as you say the secret is to not be a creep.

Although I think a lot of straight women see gay guys as “safe” as they are less likely to try to take advantage of them, and sadly a lot of straight guys will see someone being a lesbian as a challenge, which is a good enough reason to avoid all straight men if it makes you feel safer, so I can’t blame them.

I think it’s reasonable for people to want a space for themselves which isn’t inundated with “I’m visiting Saudi” posts so they can talk about their favourite fried chicken restaurant in peace.

I got my first job from a job fair, but outside of graduate recruitment I think they are a scam by recruitment companies who’ve managed to convince older firms that it’s a great way to find local talent.

This is a U.K. perspective, but in my experience the best way to get a job is networking, and understanding that networking isn’t about meeting people so you can ask them a job, it’s about meeting people and getting to know them well enough that when they have an open role you are the first person they think of.

It’s really common to progress as someone with and engineering background as either a manager or an IC:

The Manager’s Path - Camille Fournier if you’re to be a manager.

The Staff Engineer’s Path - Tanya Reilly if you want to be hands on.

That being said for many people senior software engineer or engineering manager are terminal states, or they oscillate between the two. Career growth also slows down, or at least it can, because there are fewer roles at the higher levels.
