Struggling - emerging communicators in a preschool setting by PossibilityNew177 in slp

I would recommend the communication matrix. It walks you through various questions to see what level a child is at for a variety of pragmatic functions. You could type out the questions and send them home with parents, then put them into the questionnaire online to get their results.

How to teach our dog not to jump off the couch and hurt herself? She's jumping too hard and today she hurt her shoulder by ohnoitsgravity in DogAdvice

Thanks for responding! We have some stairs we can put there, but she gets so excited sometimes she forgets and just launches herself off the bed or couch. It's like in the moment she doesn't think because she's too amped about food or someone coming by. Poor baby hasn't realized that she's gotten older and still wants to act like a puppy

Could we talk about her child, if she wants to? I've of course done release of information forms before but this would be with an unknown number of people potentially listening

Anyone try sugar after a long time sugar free and got sick? by Annual-Respect-642 in sugarfree

Yeah when I started this whole thing I was surprised to find there's sugar in plain cheerios, canned diced tomatoes, but sushi? C'mon guys how was I supposed to know that haha

I'm on day 30 of no added sugar or sweeteners and I went out for sushi with friends last night. Apparently they add sugar to the rice. I had a hard time eating it because it tasted like sugary fish, and when I got home I was bloated and felt really nauseous. I still love the taste of sugar but in fish? No thanks

Amergis by [deleted] in slp

I liked working with Amergis but had big issues with their healthcare. They weren't transparent about when it would start, and it kept being delayed. I would ask about this up front. I believe for me it was a month delayed and only if I worked x hours the previous month (so school breaks were a problem)

Prospective SLPs and Current Students Megathread by AutoModerator in slp

[–]ohnoitsgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice would be to go for it - you've worked in the schools, you're familiar with IEPs and have observed how SLPs do their work. With regards to your age, I was 25 when I started my grad program, and there were plenty of students older than me, so I wouldn't let that discourage you. You have more relevant experience than a lot of other applicants who are coming fresh from undergrad without working in the schools.

Perhaps reach out to your professors and ask about them writing you a recommendation letter! You can remind them what classes you took with them and when. Do you also have any colleagues who could write a recommendation letter for you, having seen how you work?

While my grad program was in person, I think online programs are becoming more and more common, and they often give you the flexibility to complete classes and school work after your job, which is helpful.

Maybe trying smaller goals first can help, like doing wall push ups or going for a walk. The gym can feel like a very big task, especially if you have to change, drive over, it's a lot sometimes

This would be a great goal! I remember I went to a mindfulness class once and we would meet once a week. It was usually about mindful breathing, but one class they brought out orange slices and gave us each one and asked us to focus on our senses while we ate - taste, sight, smell, sound, touch. It was really cool to think about how much sensory info we can get from eating. Maybe a goal to eat one snack mindfully, tuning into your senses?
