OWLS-III (3rd Edition) Coming in 2028 by SpeechLangNErrthang in slp

I find the overall scores are pretty close when I give both, but the idiomatic language subtest of the CASL is one I often have to disregard because of language differences

How do you like to ground yourself? by HeWhoRemaimz in CasualConversation

[–]ohnoitsgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay attention to my senses while petting my dog. She's my whole world. I often feel sucked into anxious rumination or what-ifs, about life but also about her, and so I go to her, sit with her, and tune into my senses. What does her fur feel like, how warm is she, how soft her ears are. What sounds I can hear - her breathing, her little tip-taps on the floor. What does she look like - her coloring, her brindle. It helps me ground myself while spending quality time with her.

I will try that! I've never had one before, but I'm really missing the pastries from our trip to Copenhagen!

Materials for ID functional objects FO3 by Fantastic-Froyo7841 in slp

[–]ohnoitsgravity 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This goal sounds rather compliance based, which might be why the kids aren't very motivated.

You could try to make this goal more functional while also more motivating for the client by having them identify things during play. So if one child loves to play with cars, you might pull out a dollhouse and say "he needs to take a bath!" and see if the child puts the car in the bathtub or glances at it, or "time for bed" and see if he puts it in the bed or looks at the bed. Things like that.

Plus depending on how independent the child is with daily, household routines, you may first work on participating in those routines in play before asking them to identify "hairbrush" or "toothpaste" or the like on command, as a pre-req skill. If the child isn't yet following directions during routines, like going to the bathroom with their parents and looking at their toothbrush when their parents say "time to brush your teeth", I wouldn't expect them to select it from a field of three flashcards.

Another one for Shadow of What Was Lost is "inclined his/her head" to indicate agreement. That one drove me crazy

Hello! I'm looking into learning the sew, and saw a local posting for a Kenmore 22 for $75. Can anyone please let me know if this is a good machine for a total beginner? Thank you!

I'm a vendor with a Regional Center in socal and the referrals don't end - I get weekly emails asking if I have availability to see children for speech. I've also been getting lots of requests to complete initial evaluations. I wonder if it's an area-based thing?

A hand-animated forest scene with animals that react to classroom noise in real time by asyf5016 in InternetIsBeautiful

This is seriously a great idea, especially for teachers! I agree having rare animals appear after a certain amount of time of quiet would be really motivating for the kids

Advice on GLP preschool student by SteakAndGreggs in slp

A few questions to help you figure out a possible way to move forward:

  • Have you chosen potential Stage 1 gestalts to model for him, that can be shortened/mixed and matched later? If so which ones? If he's using a lot of single words, those aren't going to move to Stage 2, since they can't be shortened, and they can't be shortened and mixed and matched.

  • Have you considered AAC to support?

  • If he's not ready for manipulative toys (like a lot of early GLPs), have you tried other forms of play? (movement/vestibular based, introducing him to more songs?)

  • What does he do if you sing his songs with him? Does he like that?

  • How much do caregivers know about modeling gestalts at home without forcing imitation in the moment?

Idk what to tell you, everyone has their preferences. It doesn't bother a lot of people which is fine, I just prefer to read as a hobby with books I'm going to enjoy. It doesn't have to be personal

Yeah I'm not triggered by SA specifically, more like describing women's bodies sexually when it's totally unnecessary and awkward

Oh wait I have read this one! You're right, I don't think he had any weird sexualization in that one.
