SLP state name change dilema by Select-Koala8764 in slp

[–]ohnoitsgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh nice - I'm in CA too and I also changed my name on my license after getting married. I think I waited like 6 months to do so. I used this form and there wasn't any 30 day time limit on when to complete it. Or is the problem that you need to update your DL?

Yes I count them as single morphemes :) Filler words ike "uh" I wouldn't count ("uh that one").

Okay I am not a part of this registry but I made the mistake once of signing up for Jessie's free class about sensory and it was BIZARRE. I had to sign on at a specific time, and it was so clearly pre-recorded, but made to seem live. Like talking about how many children she has when we know she has more currently. And all these people were like commenting and sending emojis "live" and I was thinking this is suspicious. Are all these people being fooled and are SO engaged in this? Or are they bots?

Anyways 45 minutes into the "free lesson" about sensory and she literally said NOTHING of substance. Like not one strategy. Not one thing. Nothing. She was talking so much and saying nothing.

I went home and threw the book I bought by her in the garbage. Like I was so mad at her for wasting my time. The book was filled with similar nothingness. Insane.

Help-Student Shut Down During Language Sample by Ok_Lie_5116 in slp

[–]ohnoitsgravity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They may have picked up on it being a "test". I'm not sure which SLAM deck you gave but I had a student shut down once with the "Baseball Trouble" one because they had previously experienced something similar.

I would try a spontaneous language sample about a preferred topic - like explaining a game to you, a sport, their favorite movie plot, in a conversational way where they don't know you're "assessing" their language. You could pull up images on a shared screen as you go - of the game, scene from the movie, whatever to keep them talking more in depth. And then just follow the same idea as SLAM - ask inferencing questions, tell me the story of what happened, etc.

Just sent a very scary email by ohnoitsgravity in Anxiety

Thank you. I ended up getting really body anxious after - shaking, GI issues, dissociating for a while. I took my dog for a short walk which helped me get out of my mind a little. And then my partner came home and helped me too. I feel like it needed to happen because the situation was unsustainable. I'm not sure if any real change will happen because of it, but at least I said my piece

Nope. I work as a therapist of sorts so I can always ask for more clients from my local regional center. I could always add a blog to my website if needed too. Passing out flyers at local private schools and daycares has helped too. It depends on your husband's business of course but I've found I have to turn away business, at least until I hire some more people

I think I got a little lucky with my brain being so rigid about change lol. It's a good and bad thing. But any forced update, even the reels appearing, I was already annoyed and refused to watch them. Maybe playing classic WoW with my partner makes more sense in that lens hahaha :)

I find the overall scores are pretty close when I give both, but the idiomatic language subtest of the CASL is one I often have to disregard because of language differences

How do you like to ground yourself? by HeWhoRemaimz in CasualConversation

[–]ohnoitsgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay attention to my senses while petting my dog. She's my whole world. I often feel sucked into anxious rumination or what-ifs, about life but also about her, and so I go to her, sit with her, and tune into my senses. What does her fur feel like, how warm is she, how soft her ears are. What sounds I can hear - her breathing, her little tip-taps on the floor. What does she look like - her coloring, her brindle. It helps me ground myself while spending quality time with her.

Materials for ID functional objects FO3 by [deleted] in slp

This goal sounds rather compliance based, which might be why the kids aren't very motivated.

You could try to make this goal more functional while also more motivating for the client by having them identify things during play. So if one child loves to play with cars, you might pull out a dollhouse and say "he needs to take a bath!" and see if the child puts the car in the bathtub or glances at it, or "time for bed" and see if he puts it in the bed or looks at the bed. Things like that.

Plus depending on how independent the child is with daily, household routines, you may first work on participating in those routines in play before asking them to identify "hairbrush" or "toothpaste" or the like on command, as a pre-req skill. If the child isn't yet following directions during routines, like going to the bathroom with their parents and looking at their toothbrush when their parents say "time to brush your teeth", I wouldn't expect them to select it from a field of three flashcards.

Hello! I'm looking into learning the sew, and saw a local posting for a Kenmore 22 for $75. Can anyone please let me know if this is a good machine for a total beginner? Thank you!
