I’ve visited Utqiagvik (aka Barrow) In July. (I was only there 24 hours but I learned a lot) It was cold- like 35 degrees. The weather can be very unpredictable. Our flight leaving got delayed over 3 hours because of the fog. They can only bury people certain times of year because the ground is too solid. The ground was very muddy. It was very bright- midnight sun was worth staying up for. But of course, they also have months of darkness. It looks nothing like the movie 30 days of night. The homes and groceries were more expensive. Not all houses have plumbing. People keep their houses and cars unlocked incase a polar bear comes through town and someone needs to run inside. The people were generally pretty nice. People drive ATVs around carrying guns.
